I thought this might be a fun and useful thread to those who bring food into DL or eat in their hotel room. Only having your hotel fridge, microwave, and coffee maker, what kind of culinary creations can you MacGyver. And for those of you who don't know who MacGyver is .. read here... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacGyver

I'll start... every morning I have to have coffee. Lately I have been making my own Egg Nog mock latte which IMO taste better than Egg Nog Lattes. Brew a couple of STRONG cups of coffee. Pour a quarter of whatever drinking microwavable mug you have with egg nog. Then pour 1/8 amount of the size of your mug with Vanilla flavored non dairy liquid creamer. Heat this in your microwave for 45-60 seconds. It should be very hot. Then pour in your strong coffee. If you feel really indulgent, top with whip cream from a can and sprinkle cinnamon and nutmug. ** This drink will not work when I go during spring break :( . But I do a similar drink iced with coffee syrups. :) I will do the iced one with a little punch for dh and I. This would work great in a hotel room, esp after a long day at the parks or without the punch, first thing in the morning.

Easy Mac. Instant Oatmeal. Dry cereal. Whenever we travel, we usually take a box of cereal and then pick up some milk and bananas. That way, we can just do breakfast in the room, and it's easy.

Now there's a Fresh & Easy not too far from DL, so if you're going to have a car, that's a great place to go pick up some stuff that's pre-cooked and just needs a microwave.

We take the pre cooked bacon..and then bake biscuits the night before we fly out and make instant gravy there to have biscuits and gravy..easy and warm on the tummy.. then also for other days for breakfast.. oatmeal.

easymac. we also take ziplocks with sliced carrots and celery. bags of apples and some oranges with banannas.

snack mixes.. breakfast bars and power bars.

We do a lot of oatmeal and cereal for breakfasts in the hotel room, but what honestly gets us by the most is whole wheat bread (slices or rolls), peanut butter, honey, and bananas. Together as a sandwich or in a roll, they're fairly healthy, filling, and tasty. I often pack them to take into the parks for snacks or lunch, and in a pinch, breakfast.

Our kids tend to get upset stomachs when they eat out too often and so we will be making the majority of our meals in the hotel room. We're driving so I'm going to be able to bring a lot of our own food (and a cooler).

I'm planning on pre-making some dinner meals that are easy to reheat in the hotel room. We're also bringing instant oatmeal, sandwich ingredients, and a bunch of snacks. We'll buy our fruit and milk when we get there. :)
