"How To Keep Your Husband Happy, Alcohol & Fishing!" April/May '14 TR ~Updated ~ 1/1

Sorry to hear of all the issues at home. That must be very stressful for them to extend John's tour ... I would just think you would be mentally prepared for a certain duration and for that to change, ugh. Hope things work out with him being able to come back for your October vacation Hope things work out with your MIL as well - dealing with finances for families and medical stuff is just never fun and always twice as hard/complicated as it should be But onto funner things .... oh wait, first, how annoying about those people trying to cut rows on Soarin! and then to lie about it! Good thing to speak up. I probably would have let it go and then been annoyed about it and wished I had said something for the rest of the day Glad you finally got on the ride though and that you went on Living with the Land - that is one of our favorites! And how cool that you are going diving and got to see where you will be diving - getting to see it from both sides is pretty cool!

At least some of the issues at home have calmed down for the time being and I have the excitement of two countdowns, one for John coming home (his orders changed back to having October off) and our WDW trip!

The people on Soarin' didn't really surprise me, people can be ignorant and I wasn't in the mood to let them ruin my day :teeth:

John has done the dive at Epcot twice before, so this would be his third dive at the Seas and my first as I had just been certified last August.
It was a great experience and can't wait to tell you all about it :)

We made our way over to the character meet and greet. The standby line was about a 10minute wait. We made our way in and met Mickey, Goofy and Minnie. Nothing really special happened with the interaction with any of them this time just a good character meet.

From there we walked over to the Innovations building to do the Disney Visa Meet and Greet. We each have our own Visa so that means we each can get a certificate for a free print. I had to explain that to the CM working the podium, I showed her both cards (which have 2 different pictures on them) and she says, “Oh you can only have 1 per card”. I said, “I know, they are two different accounts.” She double checks the expiration dates and goes “Oh you’re right." :rolleyes2

We waited a couple of minutes as they only let one family in behind the curtain, and they don’t tell you who is ‘appearing’.

We get behind the curtain and low and behold it’s…..Mickey and Goofy! Yay *sarcasm*
We had literally just met them across the way. Oh well.

John had some fun playing on the fire truck outside the Disney Visa Meet and Greet

From there we headed to the front of Epcot to get some more Photopass pictures taken as it had been rather busy in the morning. We got some really fun photographers who took a lot of magic shots for us.

When we were finished with that, we needed a restroom break so we headed for the ones by Spaceship Earth. We decided to just take a minute to relax, plus we had to wait for the pictures to be available to pick up at the PhotoPass shop. I took a moment to call my mom and tell her all about our day as we sat on a bench by the restrooms and lockers.

We picked up the Disney Visa pictures… I wasn’t real happy with the selection, but since I had Memory Maker I was going to get these pictures anyway. I picked two that looked ok.

We then walked back to the front of World Showcase to hop on the boat to cross over to Germany. We had an ADR at Teppan Edo. We made our way back to Japan and on the way the Flower Power bands were playing, tonight it was Herman’s Hermit’s with Peter Noon.
My dad brought me up on the music from the 50s, 60s and 70s, so I called my mom again and asked if Dad wanted to hear Peter Noon. She yells to him and he responds, “No! Why would he want to listen to that old fart?” :rotfl2:

Peter Noon…. The old fart according to my dad

We arrived at Japan a little early so we headed into Mitsukoshi to do the Pick a Pearl again (We love it!). Mine was a size 7 and would you believe that John was a lucky SOB and got twins again! This time they were 6 ¼ and 6 ½.

We had to wait a bit for our turn for the pearls so it ate up some of the time we needed to waste before dinner. We checked in for Teppan Edo and we were given a pager. We waited about 10minutes before it went off and we met up with our other diners.
We sat with a couple celebrating their 14th Anniversary and a family of 5, mom, dad 2 girls and a 13yr old boy. They looked frazzled as if they had been there all day.
Turns out they were there for a few days and then heading for a Disney Cruise.

Dinner was tasty, I had Chicken and Shrimp and John had the Filet Mignon. I didn’t take any plate pictures as they look rather messy and you are eating as they are cooking.

Dinner was done by 8:55pm and Illuminations was about to start. Great, and here we are exactly right across from where we need to be and once this show is done it’s going to be a mass exodus.
So we huffed it from Japan to the entrance. We made it to Spaceship Earth just as the show was finishing. I did have some time to take some pictures of the lights in the walkway and a quick Photopass picture in front of SE at night.

Since we missed the monorail at the beginning of the day, we decided to take it home. We walked up and we were one of the last ones to make it into the lineups before the closed it off for the next monorail. Thank goodness because as I suspected…Mass Exodus ensued!
So we waited, and waited, and waited, and it was hot and we were sweaty from doing a speedwalk marathon from Japan. I think we waited a good 20minutes for the monorail to show up. Even the CMs had no idea what was taking so long (we waited 20minutes, but the people in front of us had been waiting probably 10minutes before us too) :coffee:

Finally it did, and we got on and we didn’t really have a full car which was nice.
Our plan was to switch over to the resort monorail and take the boat from CR back to WL, but it was just the time for Wishes to start so I suggested we get off at MK and take the boat from there to WL. John agreed.
When we were waiting for the boat (we were first in line and boat was just pulling up) I asked the CM why a helicopter was flying around a lot. We had seen it all day and it was flying at night too. (Reason I asked was because someone on the monorail had said you could do a helicopter ride to watch the fireworks, and I didn’t think that was right). The CM said they were doing some filming of Wishes for future use and for possibly the new filming for Soarin’. Interesting.
It was nice boat ride back to WL and I grabbed our mugs to get drinks and to get a copy of our room charges.
I took some photos of WL at night on my way to Roaring Forks, and then up to the Front Desk.

I think I nearly had a heart attack when I saw how much we had spent so far. It was good to keep an eye on that.

Since it had been so hot, I had a nice cool shower and finished my notes for the day and went to bed. Tomorrow was going to be busy with a Keys to the Kingdom Tour early in the morning.

You got some great magic shots! Love your fairy wings. :-) Hoping to get some magic shots in August (next month, yay!!). Had to laugh about Mickey and Goofy...again. But at least it's a different backdrop, LOL!

wow - that is amazing how Mickey and Goofy were able to get from one meet & greet area to another so fast! ;)

I love all your magic shots - especially the fairy wings one - I don't think I have ever seen that one ... my daughter would love to get that!

That's cool info about the helicopter with Wishes and Soarin' filming. A lot of rumors about the new movie - if it will be the around the world version like Shanghai is getting or a Florida one or something else.

We loved all of the magic shots we got on this day! Definitely got our money's worth with Memory Maker on this day alone!

This is true about Mickey and Goofy...new backdrop :lmao:

Isn't it amazing how quickly Mickey and Goofy beat us over the new area without being seen! Maybe that's why they didn't interact with us at all and I had trouble getting good print pictures out of it :rotfl:

The fairy wing one was pretty cool, definitely wasn't expecting that one :)

And we heard lots of rumours about the filming of Soarin' while we were there. The Helicopter was flying around quite a lot during our 11 days there.

First off, sorry for the lack of photos in this update, there was no photography allowed at all on the tour, even ‘on stage’.

After our long day yesterday we had a wake up call from Olaf at 7:30am.

As John was getting ready I changed our FastPasses at HS for later in the day so that we could come back to WL and relax after our tour at MK.

Today was the Keys To The Kingdom Tour which was at 9am but we had to be there 15minutes early, which means we would be in before ropedrop.

We caught the bus to go over to MK because I know the boats can be a little unpredictable especially since they don’t start running until 30mins before the park opens.
We went down to the bus at 8:15am and got on. Great! But wait! More and more people kept running towards the bus even though it was quite full and the bus driver let them on. Then the doors finally closed and we started to drive away when we hear this shriek “WAIT!!!! That’s my husband coming with my 3 kids!” and a stroller….on an already completely full barely standing room only bus. And the driver stopped and let them on.
:crowded:

By the time we left WL it was now 8:30am and I was having a fit that we wouldn’t make it to MK and be there on time for the tour. :sad2:

Thankfully people let us off the bus first and we fast walked to where we would enter the park early. One CM told us, you can slow down, it hasn’t started yet! Thinking we were trying to make the opening show.

Empty Main St.

Thankfully we made it on time, checked in and listened to the opening show from behind and got to see the characters come down the ramp. :cool1:

Selfie after catching our breath!

After Rope Drop…. The CMs were calling this the “Frozen 5k” from all the people running to the Anna and Elsa Meet and Greet. :rotfl:

The KTTK tour was great! Our guide was Alex and was a history major (just like me!) and had come to WDW originally in the DCP and worked his way from working at AK to Guest Relations.
We learned so much from the tour. Even John, who tolerates, and I think secretly enjoys WDW told me that Main St. will never be the same anymore.

Alex our Guide

The tour started promptly at 9am and we were finished at 2pm with a 30minute stop at Columbia Harbor House for lunch (which was included in the price of the tour).
I won’t go into details of the tour for those who don’t want to know some of the secrets, but I can say even though I didn’t know everything we were told, it didn’t spoil it for me at all.
Since Alex was a history major, I think folks like us look at things differently when it comes to ‘behind the scenes’. It’s not that we are revealing things we ‘shouldn’t know’ be we are absorbing the history of it all :)
One interesting fact I learned (because I asked the question!) was about the Blue Nametags. I spotted a CM with a Blue Nametag, and asked what the significance was. Apparently, they are Special Nametags. You receive one if you embody the things that Walt Disney wanted in a Cast Member and you go way Above and Beyond to do that! So if you see someone with a Blue Nametag, they have done a Great Job and earned it :) :thumbsup2

After the tour, Alex and couple of other guides did something very special for me and my friend Jill. Jill is one of my very good friends and loves WDW as much as I do. Today was Jill’s birthday. Last year we had also been at WDW on her birthday and the folks at Whispering Canyon Café had offered to sing Happy Birthday to Jill while I recorded. I had to decline because Jill was 8 months pregnant at the time and the last time I surprised Jill (the first time she was pregnant) I think I put her into early labour
Now that Jill was definitely not pregnant I asked if Alex would wish her a Happy Birthday. Alex did something even better. He got a couple more guides, and they did a whole Birthday video for her as well as make her her very own KTTK tour nametag! pixiedust:

I posted all of it to her facebook page and she loved it!
I thought it was awesome that they did that for her.
Jill lives back in my hometown in Canada so we don’t get to see each other very often. I hope one day we can do a WDW trip together.

After the tour we took the boat back to WL, changed into our swimsuits, headed to Trout Pass Pool Bar for some drinks (Black Cherry Lemonade for John and a Grand Margarita for me) and went to the quiet pool for about an hour.

John hangin’ out in the pool

From there we went to Roaring Forks for an early dinner. We both had the Chicken Alfredo again and I got a Chocolate Caramel Cupcake.

We ate in the room, relaxed for a bit and got ready for an evening at HS.

The Keys to the Kingdom tour sounds very interesting to me. Maybe someday we'll have to do that. Either when we're on our own or when the kids are old enough to do it (appreciate it, lol). And what a cool thing that Alex did for your friend!!

We did the KTTK tour last March and really enjoyed it. We were on the 8:30am tour and saw the characters going to the train station for the welcoming show. We really enjoyed the tour, too. :)

The quiet pool at the WL is my favorite Disney pool.

We loved the KTTK tour! But unlike DiveQuest it's one of those tours you would only do once. But I'm glad we did it!

The quiet pool at the WL is my favorite Disney pool.

Seeing the characters that close and so many of them was so cool. And then watching everyone like they were in the running of the bulls for Anna and Elsa! Crazy!

We love the quiet pool too. We did use the big pool, but that was later at night when it was quiet.

After a bit of relaxation in the pool and the room we caught the bus to HS and arrived around 6pm.

John waiting for the bus

We didn’t have any ADRs for this evening which was ok for us so we could have more time just enjoying the park and not having to worry about making a dinner reservation.

After taking some pictures in front of the hat and in front of the Tower, we headed for our first FastPass for Tower of Terror. I love this ride, and was wearing my ToT shirt which I got complimented on by a CM when I was getting our ride photo :)

It was the first time on this ride for the little girl beside us. I ended up sending this photo to them :)

John did some pin trading for a Yeti while I got the photo.

The one thing I like about spreading out our FP+, it gives you time to just do whatever. Our next FP was for Star Tours but we had time to kill, so we did some window and pin shopping and John traded for another pin. (I never think to take a picture of the pins we trade for…I’ll have to remember that for the next time we go).

Love the details around the shops if you look for them. This is a WWII Recruiting poster for the Marines (John and I re-enact WWII and one of his impressions is USMC).

It’s Olaf!

We still had some time before our window opened so we set off for the Great Movie Ride which had a 20minute Stand By time. It took about 5minutes to get to the Movie Previews staging area which ran through completely once before we boarded our vehicle.
Our host, Max, was not good at all. Most times you get a CM who is very good at acting out the ‘ride’, but Max was horrible. Monotone and no acting skills whatsoever. Even John mentioned that he could probably do a better job. Oh well, maybe he was learning.
We had the gangster scene as usual.
I love the end of the GMR. My great grandmother’s cousin is Archie Leach… or you may know him as Cary Grant so I love seeing all of the scenes with him in them :)

Now our window was open for Star Tours so we walked down and saw a 10minute wait, which usually means a walk-on. I didn’t want to change our FP to anything else, so we just used it. And we walked on with everyone else.

“It’s a Trap!”

Our vehicle had plenty of empty seats and John and I were crossing our fingers for the Hoth scene (we have never had it) and we got the Wookie World *sigh*
We had so much fun let’s do it again!

But first, a picture in front of the Ewok Village! Love the Ewoks :)

(You can see my blue FitBit hanging from my pocket…Remember this)

And John was lucky to get the Red Card!

This time there were even less people on the ride! Looking in before we boarded, there were 4 people in there, and we were the only ones in our row.
*please be Hoth, please be Hoth* annnnnnnnnnd Pod Race. We HATE the Pod Race. Remember This for later on in this trip.

After our second ride we did some shopping in Tatooine and some pictures.

Me wanting to be an Ewok

John bought a Bobba Fett hat he had seen last January and then when we came back later in the year they didn’t have it, so I made him buy it.

So now that we had our fun with Star Tours, we headed over to Rock N’ Roller Coaster for our last FP at 8:30pm. We were just about to get to American Idol when I felt down to tap my Fitbit to see how many steps I had taken when I felt nothing! Just the cover! OH NO!!! :scared1:

We walked (me run) back to Star Tours and was told to go back to where you exit the ride and ask for the CMs to check for it. We told them we rode it twice and which cars we had been on. I knew it had to be on one of the cars, because I was trying to sync my phone to the Fitbit and the last time it had autosynced was at 7:44pm, when we were on ST.
The CMs were awesome and the kept checking and rechecking, and I was having a bit of a panic attack (with my anxiety issues, this wasn’t helping) but the CMs couldn’t find it :(

John and I retraced our steps back to the GMR to see if a small chance it was there, but nothing had been turned in. John wanted to just continue and go to RRR and check with Guest Relations when we were leaving, but I was having none of it. He was getting a little frustrated with me, and I was upset because 1. I had lost a $50 Fitbit 2. My anxiety and 3. John was getting mad at me. :sad1:

I was just about to make it back to the exit at ST when I heard “Ma’am!” and I thought, oh great I am going to get in trouble for coming back here again. And then “They found it! They are sending it up to Guest Relations!” OH THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!
I know it was just a small little insignificant Fitbit, but with everything going on in my life, it was a major crisis at the moment.

Now that I knew everything was good to go, we made our way over to RRR, Fantasmic had just let out so we were like Salmon swimming upstream. We finally get there, yay! Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd the ride was down. Boooooooooooooooooooo.
This was the first time we had a FP for a ride that went down. The CMs told us just go use it at ToT. So we did.
We got the blue Mickey but the CM just overrode the system. We had fun. We like ToT.

I love the details in the queue!

Second time around!

By now the park was getting ready to close so we made our way to GR so that I could collect my Fitbit, give praise to the Cast at Star Tours and talk to them about our RRR FP.

At the time, I didn’t know that we were going to get a FP to use by the end of business the next day. So I explained to the nice CM that since RRR was a Tier 1 ride, I didn’t have it booked again for our trip and the day that we would be back we would have to use all 3 FPs before I could try and get another. She was really awesome and completely understood, so she gave us a FP for RRR on May 1 when we would be back. That gave us 4 for that day.
I got my Fitbit, and Star Tours knew exactly how happy I was they found it. They were all complimented by me. :cheer2:
(I’ll have more about this in my next TR for SWW!)

We caught the bus back to WL and changed to head down to the main pool and we became children and went down the slide. We had so much fun, I felt like I was 10yrs old again.
We relaxed in the pool for a bit and then headed over to Roaring Forks. We ordered a flatbread pepperoni pizza to split and I got chili with cheddar cheese, John also got a Vanilla Cupcake. John waited for the food, and I got the drinks and headed back to the room.
There would have been a picture, but John had to run back to the room to get cash because his transaction was declined, saying we had reached our limit. *sigh*
So while he did that, I went to the front desk to find out what was going on.
I knew there was a limit, but I couldn’t remember what it was ($1500), but the weird thing was we weren’t even near our limit. I didn’t want to cause a fuss, so I just paid it down and hoped all would be well in the morning.

I took this outside the elevators by our room. I love the little details Disney places everywhere. It’s just a wall sconce but it’s beautiful!

We ate, watched some tv and crashed.

I'm glad that they found your Fitbit. I've heard lots of stories of CM's finding things that people lost. There must be a room full of abandoned hats and other items that people never bother to look for, thinking they were lost forever.

Do you always sit in the front row of ToT or was that a coincidence? I think it is the scariest seat on the ride.

I would love to be able to see all the different stories in Star Tours since I'm a big Star Wars fan, but I get terrible motion sickness from the ride. They need to run an occasional "bump free" ride. I bet that a lot of people would like that option.

Just when you think things are getting better, Murphy throws a curve.

We are probably going to have to cancel our October trip when John was going to be home from Afghanistan.

But, because I am on a leave of absence from work and don't have a paycheck coming in, and when John is home he won't be getting a paycheck either and I have to save enough to cover the bills.

So he has asked to stay until December. If they let him, I will push the trip to January(hopefully).
If they don't and he comes home for October, the only way we will be able to go is if Cigna approves my appeal for Short Term Disability (and I'm not hopeful for that because they are horrible).

So not feeling very Disney lately. I get anxious when I think about the money, and I get anxious when I think about having to cancel our trip :sad1:

All I can do now, is hope for a miracle.

So weird, your post wouldn't show up for me until I posted something!

No, we don't always get the first row, just lucky I guess. I love the first row :)

I remember the Original Star Tours when it wasn't 3D. In fact I saw Jordan Knight from New Kids on the Block getting off the ride (I was stopped when he was getting off the vehicle. I was 9 and almost caught him as he was going out the Emergency Exit hehe).

Checking up on you to see how you're doing and if anything changed over the weekend.

Canceling a vacation and having to make a 180 with your plans is never fun, but it might be the prudent thing to do in your case.

Do you think you might have less anxiety if you focus more on next years' trip and saving up for that? I think a January trip would be wonderful and the weather is nice and cool. It sounds like you wouldn't have to worry as much about the vacation dates/timing and the cost after he returns and he'll be back to making his regular salary, even when on leave.

Following you over from the WL thread. I saw your user name and knew I had to follow along as my hubby and I are also J and K in VA. Subbing in and catching up ; )

sorry to hear about the news - obviously neither option sounds great but definitely need to do what is best for your family. Disney World isn't going anywhere and I know for me if I was stressed about finances it would prevent me from enjoying the trip as much

And hey, insurance companies can act inconsistent at times - maybe that will work in your favor in this case! ;)

I am hoping that it comes through in my favour. However, I have read many many many horror stories about this particular one. It's frustrating, they have a group of people with my fate in their hands and they are not even doctors, yet MY doctor has stated multiple times that I am disabled.

So if they deny me again, I will have to resign my position and possibly cash in my pension and 401k just to help us out.

It's just tough. The money is great right now, it's just when neither of us have no paycheck coming in.

It wouldn't be so bad if October didn't have 3 payhecks! This just means that the next two paychecks in November are later in the month, and when he goes back Nov 6, the Nov 13 Paycheck will only have 3 days on it and then the full paycheck on Nov 27. So it's like saving for 2 months worth of bills. :scared1:

He may find out tomorrow if they will accept his request to stay until December.

Well, it is official. John will be in Afghanistan until December 14, so our October trip will be postponed until January.

Just have to figure out dates, and then wait until those pesky 2015 prices come out so I can move our reservations.

Sorry for the lack of Trip Reports. The medications that they changed me to make me so dopey that I sleep most of the day.
I hope I can get one out to you all in the next couple of days :)

Thanks for everyone who has stayed with me with this journey

Glad you found out can move on - and that he will get those October paychecks!

Best of luck planning!

While not what you wanted a trip to the world is great no matter when. We went in January last year and despite some colder temps (but way warmer than the frigid snow of home) the crowds were non existent. I'm sure you will enjoy.

Hope you feel better soon.
