How in the world do I get from SNA to the HoJo? Is there some kind of shuttle? Should we rent a car? Do we need a car while we're there? We're still debating on a day at the beach.

Options:

Taxi - $approx. 40 incl. tip each way
Super Shuttle - about $8.00 each way pp with Ent. book
Disneyland Express Bus - I think it's about $25 rt: http://graylineanaheim.com/airport_info.cfm
Rental Car - whatever price you can negotiate

If you want a beach day, I would recommend a rental car. The drive is easy to get to the HoJo and they do not charge for parking.

Ha ha grumpy we should have combined our questions...I'm doing HoJo-SNA by taxi, it's about a $40 trip and when I look at the inconvenient shuttle the price for our family would be about the same. I'm curious to know the timing!

We have also considered a day at the beach and there are a lot of threads that explain this...seems as if you can rent a car for the day and it's easy to do. Rental agencies will pick you up and apparently you can drive down Harbor all the way to the beach!!

I am not sure about the size of your family or the dates of your travel, but I have a reservation for a car from Hertz over a 4 day weekend in April using the Entertainment discount to get a rate of $60. It is worth checking the price of a car rental especially if you are staying at the Hojo - they don't charge for parking.

I would suggest that if you want to do a day at the beach, you should rent a car. If not then I would recommend super shuttle. If you dont have the entertainment cupon rate for $8.00 then it will be approx $11 per adult. I think that if you went with a shuttle that would be your best option. I have taken taxi's down there and let me tell you I am the farthest thing from impressed. They will take you the long route just to sucker more money out of you. Someone here said they paid around $40 (They lucked out) I paid over $60 twice. At least with Super Shuttle your garunteed to get to your hotel on time or just about if you have to drop off people which will also be in the same area. But each time i've taken Super Shuttle from SNA to our hotel which was beside Hojo... the Hojo's got off the shuttle first. Which would be you. :)

Thanks for all the answers but I have one more question. Is the DL Express bus the same thing as the Magical Express at WDW. Do you load onto the bus and are shown a DL themed movie or is it like a shuttle with drop offs at various hotels? Thanks!

We were able to rent a car from Thrifty at SNA Fullsized for 120 dollars with tax for Friday-Wednesday.

I always do super shuttle. I have never had a problem with it, went pretty fast to my motel and cheaper then a taxi for the 3 of us.

Nope! I'm not sure about the movies, but the Disneyland Express bus will drop off at all the Disney hotels first and then it will make its way to HoJo, but there could be quite a few other Harbor Blvd. hotels stops before hitting HoJo. Also, the Disneyland Express bus is run by Gray Line and there is a fee to ride, unlike WDW's Magical Express.

I really enjoyed using Super Shuttle from SNA to the hotel (Carousel in my case). I did wait a few minutes while they waited for someone else, but that wasn't a big deal for me, it gave me a few minutes to call DH and let him know I arrived so I didn't have to be rude and do it while the driver was in the vehicle.

We took Disneyland Express in 2006 & 2007. My kids love it because the it's the "Snow White" bus and is decorated Disneyland style. However, I am going to say this because as a consumer, this is my chance to complain!

I don't mind paying more (it is more expensive by a little bit, $21 for a RT) than other options. But their customer service stinks! We got on the bus to leave Disneyland and were told that we (all customers going to SNA) were going to stay on the bus and everyone going to LAX were going to transfer to another bus at the Disneyland Hotel. Then, when we got to the Disneyland Hotel, it was all the SNA customers who needed to get up. We had 2 little ones and grandpa and grandma all nice and settled in and all of a sudden it was a big hurry---and I mean a big hurry---they were really rushing us and the driver was nearly yelling at everyone. Then, all of our luggage didn't make the transfer. We didn't realize it until we got to SNA and when I called no one could help---and it was one of our carryons, the one with the girls blankies and lovies! :sad2: Finally, our bag got tracked down and they wanted me to pick it up---well, by then I was in Seattle. So I called and gave them my credit card number so they could ship us our stuff (because they were not going to admit fault). The next day I got a call asking if I really wanted our stuff shipped back because it was going to be expensive. I guess in a way it was good to ask (rather than me being surprised by the $80 shipping bill) but everyone I spoke to there just had the WORST customer service and were just weird to talk to.

Anyhow, we are boycotting DL Express from now on!;)

Where did you find the Entertainment discount for the car and for what rental agency was it for. Were going to the first wk in December and are staying at HOJO but have to wait for the 2009 ET book to come out for the card. Is there a list somewhere that would have the date the discounts are good for listed anywhere?
TIA
