How to get dried cat urine from pillow top mattress......???

We let an outdoor cat inside for the night because it was freezing. The cat peed on my daughters bed and we didn't find it until the next night and it was already dry. I immediately put baking soda on it, rubbed it in a bit, let it's it for a while. Then, I sprayed it with vinegar and scrubbed with a brush. After several tris with Thetis method, I got out the steam cleaner and used the hand held part and cleaned and cleaned the area. Seemed ok for about 2 days....... Now what?

I have had success (after multiple failures) with Nature's Miracle Urine Destroyer. You can get it at the pet store. Good luck!

I came home from vacation to find my cats were locked in my bedroom without food, water, or a litter box. I used simple solutions cat urine cleaner (comes in a green spray bottle they sell it at Petsmart and Amazon) it was in-freaking-credible. Saved my mattress, no trace of any odor but I did have to do several applications.

You MIGHT have luck soaking the hell out of it with an enzyme based cleaner like Nature's Miracle or Simple Solutions....

Because it's going to take a lot to get it out of a memory foam mattress, I would probaby use Odor-Mute instead of Nature's Miracle. Both have the odor removing enzyme but the unscented Odor-Mute doesn't have the artificial fragrance in it. That Nature's Miracle smell is almost as bad as the urine smell to me.

A black light (I got a cheap flashlight one from Amazon) will let you know if you got it all.

Does it work on any urine? My 2 yr old is going through a naked phase and while she now is potty trained, at the start she wasn't and I have a few smelly carpet spots.

Nature Miracle is GREAT!!! I would spray with it and use a carpet cleaning machine that has an attachment for doing upholstery to extract it. If using a carpet machine do not spray water on it. It will only make it penetrate the mattress. Just use the carpet machine to suck up the stuff you have sprayed on it. Also might be a good idea to put a waterproof pad on her bed. Just incase anything else liquid gets on her bed.


Ellone since with works on cat urine I am 100% sure it will work on human urine. Cat pee is some of the strongest urine there is and this stuff works!

Cosign the hydrogen peroxide!

Mix 8 oz. hydrogen peroxide, 3 tablespoons of baking soda, and 1 drop of Dawn dish detergent.

Mix the peroxide and baking soda in a spray bottle and shake well until the baking soda disolves completely, then add the drop of dawn. Shake again.

Spray on affected area. Literally within 5 -10 minutes you should see a noticeable difference in the stain. Use all of the solution, dab dry and let dry completely either outside in the sunlight or under a fan. Once completely dry, vacuum any remaining baking soda residue.

You will be amazed!

Note that Nature's Miracle isn't what it used to be. The lab that owns the patent for the Nature's Miracle old formula no longer produces for the Nature's Miracle label. What is sold now as Nature's Miracle now is not the famous stuff and in my opinion doesn't work nearly as well.

The laboratory is Petastic. They were selling it themselves for awhile as "Petastic Stain and Odor Remover" but it seems like it is getting hard to find and I'm not sure what is up with that.

I had to use Natures Miracle this year for puppy training (tile and hardwood) and a cat who was locked in the family room overnight and had a carpet accident. I still found it excellent and no traces of any odor. Follow the directions to the letter.

Unfortunately cat urine is the worst to remove all traces of odor. You think it's gone until a humid or rainy day ugh. We bought a home and the previous owner had a cat. The owner replaced all carpet and padding but on a damp rainy day you could still smell the odor coming up through the floors. This is one of many reasons I would never have a cat in my house.

OP you will probably end up throwing the mattress away and getting your daughter a new one.

Thank you OP for caring enough to let the kitty in out of the cold. (I actually adopted two semi-feral cats and was able to litter train them quickly.)

Ah yes, always a good idea to do a test! But, we have used it on dark green carpet without any bleaching- probably determined by the type of fiber or dye.

I agree. The smell is never going to be completely removed.

It's a really good idea to put waterproof mattress covers on all mattresses.
