My poor Boston Terrier Oreo has to have surgery on Thursday :guilty: to remove a tumor from her toe. :paw: She is actually having part of her toe removed. This is her 5th surgery so we should be used to it by now. It is hard every time. I hate bringing her into the vet and leaving her there. It just breaks my heart.

Anyway, they wanted me to get a urine sample from her. :confused3 They even sent home the little plastic cup. So picture me, walking her down the hill sticking the cup lid under her every time she squatted! This is not easy and now they tell me I didn't get enough and have to try again tomorrow! :earseek: Anyone have any tips to make this easier on both of us?

This week is not starting off well. Start playing those violins now because it's going to be a whiny week!

My only advice is to wear disposable gloves and move in fast! :earseek:

I alway laugh when they ask for a Urine sample. I tell them to give the dog the cup and show him the men's room. :rotfl2:

Actually as I take him to his usual spot I will have a disposible pan that is a lot easier to slip under him once he starts. They don't need a lot to do the test.

Take the dog to a keg party then start following him around about an hour later. Opportunity should soon present itself.

Seriously, I just let the vet deal with it. I don't know how they do it, but they have never asked me to do it for them.

Hide in here and stick the cup out of the spout :rotfl2:

Maybe use a larger, disposable plactic storage container to catch it, then transfer it to the smaller cup. It might make it easier to catch!

I'm thinking tie a ziplock bag around him.

Or...call a pediatrician's office and ask for a "u-bag." It's what they put on babies to catch urine, it's self adhesive and will catch it. It may not be big enough to hold that much urine, but it's worth a try.

I used a pie plate and transferred it to the cup. My dog likes to squat over empty flower pots and storm drains to go though. If the toilet weren't so slippery I'm sure he'd give it a try. :paw:

I also have a Boston Terrior and had to get a sample last spring. We knew some of his spots he always had to mark when going outside. So we put a bowl in that spot and adjusted it under him to catch the sample. Then simply poured it in the cup to take to the vet.

You could always dress your kids up like this, hand them a dixie cup and send them out to play with the dog...

Use a wide frying pan with a low side, follow her around, and when she squats down, just move in quickly. It takes a few attempts to get it right...

Wow, I am honestly truly shocked that you have to do that!!!! When my vet needs a sample, she just goes in with a needle and extracts it straight from the bladder on my pets

Thank you all for the wonderful advice, links and humor. It took several tries, but I was able to get enough urine and I now have a paranoid dog! She looks back before going potty to make sure I'm not hovering with a cup! :teeth: Anyway, thanks again. :Pinkbounc
