how to get a universal hotel room if they say its sold out

Help!! Any advice greatly appreciated. My girls will be at US for a cheer competition in March. I called today and they said that there are no hotel rooms available for the weekend. Are there any tricks or other places I could book through?? Thanks in advance.

Check with various internet booking websites: Orbitz, Expedia, Travelocity, Hotels, etc. Some of these sites obtain blocks of rooms from various hotels. Some hotels will show these rooms unavailable even though they are still available through the booking website.

Just keep checking the website. It is unlikely that they are actually booked. More likely there are conferences and things that have been blocked.

US Spirit has a large block of rooms set aside for the competition (if this is the one you are going to) According to their website, you are supposed to call the hotel and ask for the US Spirit block of rooms.

Otherwise, I would just keep checking back. When we went to UCA back in March, my family wanted to stay at Universal while we were at Disney. I started trying to book about this time and got the same thing - hotel was completely full. That was not the case. By around November, I was not only able to book the hotel, but also get my platinum upgrade.

thanks everyone! Goofy, I did call and they said all the rooms in the US Spirit Block were taken. they then said they would check at regular price and then stated nothing was available. Most of our team planned to stay at the Hard Rock, but it looks like we may be out of luck. We waited to be sure because we are a small gym and really need everyone to commit before we plan travel.

Try one of the travel agencies that are associated with an airline. We had the same trouble last July--desperately wanted to stay at HRH. No rooms were available. I tried all the regular travel websites with no luck. I finally had success with USAirwaysvacations.com. I was able to book the hotel room only and get park tickets. I did not have to buy airfare in order to book the room. However, we stayed for 4 nights. I'm not sure if they have a minimum night requirement. Good luck!

i have had this happen to me and it can be worked out in some cases.

if you are putting in for only the weekend dates, you will get a "no rooms available"

if you put in for a day or two prior, you will have a better chance of booking.

this is what i have had to do for the last 2 years for hrh during hhn time events.

i check in on a thursday in order to have the room for the weekend.

try putting in a date earlier than the weekend.
and of course do the date that you will be able to be there.

I know that UCA Nationals the weekend of March 14 never runs out of hotel rooms, because they block a lot of the space at the All Star's and at Caribbean Beach. Plus, this competition is a lot bigger with tougher competition.

Are you trying to find a block of rooms for your whole team or is everybody trying to find rooms on their own.

I was just looking for us, as that is the kid's spring vacation week and it was showing available rooms at the RPR for that weekend. But I was just looking for 2 rooms, so if you are looking for more, that might be more difficult.

Thanks for the suggestion. We are a smaller gym just getting our feet wet with national competitions. We only do 1 per year and did the Big Apple in NYC last year and Myrtle Beach the previous 2. The cost for UCA and WDW is just so much higher. Maybe someday we will be ready for that.
