while riding in the car, let them pick "their" radio station.

then wait for a cover of a hit from the 70's, one that you know all the words to from when you were in high school, and sing along.

makes them nuts.

Honestly J.C. freaked me out dealing with music. I was playing with Kazaa and he said "mama I want you to download this song I heard that I love!!"

I'm rolling my eyes thinking PLEASE NO RAP!!! I refuse to let him listen to Eminem.....to my astonishment the requested song was.

Summer of 69 by Bryan Adams. I was very pleased because I still love that song!

He also heard the Eddie and the Cruisers song...ON the Dark Side and liked it!

I'm proud of his musical tastes so far!

DS16 is currently on a Bob Dylan kick. I also hear him listening to Led Zep and The Who. You know, rock is rock. And good rock is always gonna be around. Including those classic 70's songs. He told me his fave Who song was "Teenage Wasteland" and I said, you mean "Baba O'Reilly" and now he knows I'm not as dumb as he thought!!!

We were in the car a couple weeks ago and Meatloaf's "I Won't Do That" came on. My DS-8 said to me, "Mom, how do you know all of the words to this?" Like it hasn't been around longer than he has... ;)

I feel the same way about most of today's TV commercials -- especially car commercials. Today's teenagers don't realize how many of our songs from the 60's, 70's, 80's are in car commercials.

Right now the one that comes to mind is Meat Loaf's "Paradise By The Dashboard Light" -- the phrase "Oh, let me sleep on it, baby, baby, let me sleep on it..."

I couldn't even tell you what they were selling half the time -- I just like the music...:D

Isn't that the truth!?! My DD tells me all the time that she can't stop loving me because of the commercial for whatever for which Phil Collins' song is used. She has no idea that it was originally a song.

Doesn't it seem there are so many cover versions these days? And sampling! Don't even get me started on sampling! I really wonder if some of these rappers know how to create their own music - they are constantly stealing (oops, I mean SAMPLING) from other artists.

My 15yo sons and their friends are into Dylan too. First time dh heard them playing it, he was like, what are you listening to. Then he gave them a name of a bunch of songs to check out. Father son bonding, LOL.

I hear you about the sampling and the lyrics are RIDICULOUS...Oh yeah lets teach all the children out there to hate their mother (eminem) COME ON!

You know its not just that the beat of rap is annoying as hell but its the LYRICS!

I mean I listened to 80S big hair rock and yes alcohol was mentioned but not hate and MURDER!

Ugghh....

My 9-year-old DD is a MAJOR Elvis fan...thanks to Lilo and Stitch. ;)

Actually she has pretty good taste in music, she likes some of my stuff and I like some of he stuff. :)

With the exception of Good Charlotte (her favorite band), my DD15 listens to ALL of the same music I listened to! She loves Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Motley Crue & has CD's of all the cassette tapes I used to have. She and I are going to see Bon Jovi in Toronto next month! 10th row seats!
