How to Explain Our Celebration

I've had a cast member ask if we were celebrating anything this trip, and I'm not quite sure how to explain it so I just kind of mumbled it was a family reunion, and wondered if someone had a better way of putting this.

My father is very ill, and loves all things Disney. His last wish is to take his grandchildren to Disney, so we're going as kind of a last hurrah for the whole family. It will most likely be our last trip together.

It is very special and bittersweet, and when someone asks I'd like to acknowledge it, but I don't know quite how to say it. Any advice?

Enjoy every minute of your trip. I don't quite know what you can say to acknowledge your circumstances, it is a private matter and you don't know the personal issues of the cast member you are talking to, if it might even be a trigger for sad memories for them (for example they lost a parent and were never able to have a trip or anything else special in advance). Hopefully someone will have better advice what to say. Hugs!

Couldn't you say you are celebrating your wonderful father and hope they can read between the lines?
A heartfelt hug to you :grouphug:

Just tell them your dad is passing down his love of Disney to the grandkids and you want the children to remember this trip fondly, which I'm am sure you all will.

Enjoy every minute and take great pictures!

My father's wish was to be able to take his kids and grandchildren to Disney.
