I purchased tickets on AirTran for a Nov. Disney trip :cool1: a couple of weeks ago and just noticed a $20 reduction in fare. How can I get them to apply this reduction? Will they impose a fee? Am I stuck with what i have? :confused3

Thanks!:)

Ugg. I just checked the FAQ on Airtran:

frequently asked questions
Specials and Sale Fares

I have already purchased my tickets and have seen specials for a less expensive fare. Can I get the lower price?

A $75 fee per person applies to any change made after purchase, plus any applicable increase in airfare. Any changes to your reservation must occur at least 1 hour prior to departure.

If you wish to change your reservation, please contact our reservation center at 1-800-AIR-TRAN (1-800-247-8726). If you originally booked your reservation at AirTran.com, you may retrieve your booking and make your changes online.

i am no expert on this, but i swear i read on another thread that airtran will issue credit for price drops you just have to call....worth a shot!

Call AirTran, and they will issue a credit (not a refund) if the lower price for the same flight is still available. I did that a few weeks ago when one flight went down in price by $20. If you want to change to a different flight - you are out of luck...until AirTran changes the flight times of your flight.

As a PP said, AirTran will issue a credit if the price of your flight drops to less than what you paid. All you have to do is contact them, and they will issue the credit for a future flight. You then have one year to use the credit.

We had to do this in May when our prices dropped by $20 a person. I was able to use the credit toward our October tickets. We had friends who also did the same thing.

Thanks for all the replies! Do you think the credit would be good towards the baggage fee? I was assuming we would pay that when we got to the airport.

I would first call AirTran to get the credit, and then ask if it can be used for baggage fees. I know the credit can be used for seat assignment fees. By the way, the credit is good for one year from when your tickets were originally purchased, and not one year from when the credit is issued.

:cool1::thumbsup2:woohoo:
Thanks everyone, I called airTran and they credited me the $20 per ticket. It can also be used towards the baggage fees! :woot And yes, it does expire 1 year from the date of the original ticket purchase.

Yup, we do this often. We buy bags right before we travel because we usually have a credit to use up. Airtran is great!

I noticed yesterday that they changed our flight times again but have not yet notified us. When I receive the notice will they let us move to a flight on the next day. We originally had a direct flight then switched to a layover then now have us flying out 2 hrs earlier. But the next night they still have the direct flight.

You don't need to wait for them to notify you of the schedule change. If you originally booked a non-stop flight that is now connecting, and you want to change to a non-stop flight the next day - they ought to do that for you without any charge.

Dumb question and we have never flown Airtran, but how do you prepay for bags. Can this be done for our return flight before we leave. I guess I thought you just had to wait till you check in to pay for them. I would love to go ahead and pay for bags before we leave. We fly in October and the checked bag price is going up to $20 per bag on Sept.1

Thank you. I just called and it was not a problem. No charge. So now I get an extra day at the world:yay:

Unless you just purchased your plane tickets today, the fee for the first checked bag is still $15: http://www.airtran.com/policies/carry-on_checked.aspx#Checked Baggage

First Checked Bag
For coach class travel through August 31, 2010, and for all coach class reservations made prior to August 17, 2010, the charge for a first checked bag is $15 with size and weight limitations.

New! Effective September 1, 2010, for all coach class reservations made after August 16, 2010, the charge for a first checked bag is $20 with size and weight limitations (see baggage allowance details below).

When I call to ask for the credit, do I call the reservations line or should I call the A+ phone number?

I just booked today and am going to watch closely in hopes that it comes down.... I have never paid this much for my flights to Orlando, but have already noticed my dates are super high, so paid what I felt was ok.... now it is time to watch for a sale.

I called 1-800-AIRTRAN.

Just want to post that I just got some airtran credit...
1. called 1800airtran
2. pushed 1 for flight changes
3. told lady that my flight price went down and was req credit
4. gave her confirmation number
5. told me I now had $60 credit attached to my account to use
It was easy!

Went to airtran and used some of my credit to reserve our seats and still have $36 left to use for baggage fees. Easy!
