How to celebrate a birthday after a loved one is gone?

My dad would've been 63 this Sunday. He has only been gone for 3 1/2 months.
I would like to celebrate his birthday, but I don't know how.

What have you all done to celebrate?

I'm sorry for your recent loss .

Is there something you can do that he would enjoy? Go to a favorite park or restaurant? Could you do something that will last in memory of him? Like plant a tree in his honor? Buy a bench for your yard? Make a stepping stone?

I am sorry for your loss.

We visited my dad's grave (my mum really wanted to do this) and then my sister, mum and I went out for a quiet lunch. It was nice, we talked about dad, shed a few tears and had lots of laughs.

I hope you find something that brings you peace and happy memories, 1st's are so tough.

My sisters and I went out to lunch on Mom's birthday. She LOVED going out to lunch!

On the first anniversary of her death, we went out to lunch, then shopping (we call that "retail therapy").

Getting through all those "firsts" was a challenge, but we had one another. Think of something that your dad liked to do and honor him in that way.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

My daughters and I decided to make homemade birthday cards with long messages on the inside. We punched a hole at the top corner of the card and we are going to attach helium balloons and let them go on Sunday.
So, I guess we are sending our cards up to heaven. :littleangel:

I know his birthday isn't until Sunday, but I am just so sad. I was supposed to go to a co-worker's house this evening for a work social, but I just don't have any energy. In fact, I don't plan on even getting off this computer chair until its time for bed.

Some days hurt so much more than others.

I think your ideas to celebrte your dad's life sound lovely and I hope it brings you some comfort.
That heart aching sad is so overwhelming, be kind to yourself and try and get some rest.
We are hear to listen if you need to talk or a cuddle.
