How to carry my cash/cards?

I am really not comfortable with just throwing my wallet in the backpack. I looked at the neck wallets, but the are pretty big and don't seem comfortable to wear. (Plus I would have a funny tan line :rotfl:)

So...my big question is, what do you do? Are there a lot of fanny packers out there? They are so out of style these days, lol, but they do seem practical. :confused3

hah! my adult daughters are threatening to desert me if i wear my fanny pack, but too bad, i'm calling it a waist pack and wearing it anyway:rotfl:

advantages include hands free operation, secure in front, don't have to take it off to sit down on attractions, no strap around your neck, and it doesn't swing around as you change position. only disadvantage in my experience is it can get kinda sweaty in the hotter months, so i use a nylon one for quick drying.

I've always taken a fanny pack to theme parks, and I don't really care if someone else thinks it's too 80s. It's the most practical thing out there, and significantly better than the backpack I used when I had kids in dipes and we went.

The thing I like about the waist packs is that they are really made for this. There is normally a tiny zip pocket at the front for credit cards, the often have 2 compartments which means you can separate your stuff from your kids' stuff, and even the smallest will hold the digital camera, cash & plastic, a small first aid kit, and a small bottle of sunscreen. Plus, you can hook things onto the waist strap, like bottle holders or sunscreen.

also, backpacks make me sweat. Not cool in the Florida heat. The waist pack has very little sweat potential. Just don't get leather - they don't hold up as well and they get sweaty faster.

The other option I'm entertaining, though it's a definite for the boys, is to buy Disney lanyards with coin purses attached. It's against the rules to link you to ebay auctions, but if you search "disney lanyard wallet" or "disney lanyard coin" you will find several of these for $4-5 plus shipping. They can give you funny tan lines too, but you shouldn't be getting too much sun b/c you will NEED the sunscreen in FL. There's nothing like ball games and theme parks to make you look like a lobster.

I confess. I wear a fanny pack. But only for theme park visits. It really is perfect for that. It's nice to have quick access to $, cc, park tickets to get fast passes. These are all things I want to carry on me not in a back pack that might get left behind somewhere. Also a great place to put sunglasses during indoor/dark rides like POC.

Dh doesn't mind carrying a backpack which has a padded laptop sleeve. For us any insulation is great to put frozen bottled waters and keeps them cold all day and they don't 'sweat' all over other items in the back pack. (We stay offsite & have a real freezer.)

I do take the fanny pack off for pictures. If my coworkers saw that I'd never hear the end of it! Though most have never been to WDW so they wouldn't understand. :sad2:

For this trip I bought the Cruising Caddy as recommended by someone on this board. It is a water bottle holder and also has 2 roomy pockets. I have done a 'test fill' and was able to hold all of this in one of them: water bottle (the CC comes with a sleeve for your water bottle to absorb sweating), sunscreen, camera, cell phone, wet wipes (individually wrapped ones) and still had room for tix & credit cards.

I bought mine from Shoebuy.com, which is having a 20% off sale right now plus free shipping.

Target is selling fanny packs in its 'trendier' section of handbags right now... so maybe they are having a resurgence :)

I clip my Vera Bradley tiny wallet to a belt loop, put in my pocket... and carry my VB backpack...

I wore a lanyard, and it's was great to be so hands-free. DH carried the backpack.

Thanks! I think I will wear my fanny/waist pack. I will be more comfortable knowing the important stuff is close.:goodvibes

pirate: Whatever else you decide never keep all your money & cards together in one place!!! :thumbsup2

I got a Vera Bradley Amy bag:
10080025
I got the matching zip id case:
10336023
which will hold my KTTW card, ID, debit and a little cash. The Amy bag is just big enough to fit the wallet, my digital camera, Flip mino video camera, blackberry, and sunglasses. We will have a stroller and diaper bag, so I did not want some big bag that I would have to carry. The strap is long enough to fit diagonally across my chest, with the bag portion sitting right on my hip. The strap can also be doubled up to use as an under the arm bag.

This fannypack talk is making me chuckle...

My mom always took one when we went on trips. I teased her about it, we all did. She was so good natured. I swore it would never be me!

I'm by no means a snob but one indulgence every once in a while for me is a "good" handbag...

Well I made it until the age of 35 and our first trip to Disney...even the HUBBY ended up having to get a fanny pack!

Now, planning our second trip, fanny packs were the FIRST thing on our list!

I wear cargo shorts with pockets on the side so I can carry my wallet and phone. I've never lost anything yet.

That's so funny! My mom had this HUGE fanny pack that carried everything and a large bottle of water. She would wear it to Cedar Point and it was so embarrassing, lol.

If I don't have a diaper bag on hand, I usually put my essentials (wallet-stuff) in my camera bag as I almost always carry that on my person.

Fanny pack/Hip pack are great for WDW! We got ours a couple of years ago They were Disneys "the Wild", they worked great. Hands free and hold a lot yet dont feel heavy. I put a camera, pain meds, wet wipes, water bottle, sunglasses and money in mine. When I got on a ride I would just turn it to the side.

I save it for Theme parks, all day events. Not for running around town.

If you are just looking for something for cash, cards, id and KTTW, paper with ADRs for day then I recommend this
http://www.rei.com/product/773712

I have it the Blue Paisley, it is super comfy and not hot and I always feel my monies is secure.

You could put car key and/or the electronic lock fob ( 1 key not yours keys to everything) in it if you needed but I wouldn't put much more in it.

Have you used this? It looks perfect for my needs, but I worry about my wrist getting all sweaty and hot. Also, my DH needs something to carry his phone in while he's running, I wonder if this would be big enough?

I use it all the time. I cycle with it 12-15 miles 5 days a week, I wear this in July in 100 weather and have worn it in WDW. It doesn't get any hotter than the rest of me, it does wick but hot is hot. It washes well but velcro will pick it.
As for a cell, I have a treo and it does not fit. I'm not a runner so I don't know comfortable it would be flopping around my wrist with a phone.

The most I have ever put in it was ID,Ins card, CC, chapstick, 1 house key, a pack of juicy fruit sticks, a cough drop and $30 in fives. It was plump but not uncomfortable. Stuff only goes on one side not both.

Did that help?
