There is an auction that I am very interested in and would love to do a BIN. Since the week is for December I am a little leery. The seller is pretty new and has one neg for some shoes. I asked if I could pay 1/2 now and 1/2 closer to the date?

Any ideas how I can protect myself?

I wouldn't do it. If it was a seller with tons of good feedback that would be one thing, but for all you know all your money could be out the window. Is it a DVC timeshare? If so, rent from the boards here. Or join tug....I think people buy and trade there.

ive heard some people do it in an holding account type thing till the holiday, might be worth looking into ??

Is the seller Square Trade certified? This is a special membership that doesn't guarantee that they're legit but it helps. (Like a business belonging to the BBB.)
Also does ebay or paypal offer any protection? I was looking there too to get an extra condo for my bil/sil to come with us to Williamsburg and many state "Up to $2000 in buyer protection by paypal."
Also see if the seller has sold travel before. Is the seller the true owner of the timeshare? Are most of his/her sales personal junk from home?
For me, I'd want a seller that sells a lot of ts rentals and I can see many + responses from other buyers.
good luck! :goodvibes

The best advice that I could give you is to first visit tugbbs dot com. They have an excellent bulletin board devoted to timeshare ownership. Review the site, ask lots of questions and if the ebay opportunity ends before you've completed your education, let it go - there will be others.
