How to beat the heat

Looking for ideas. How do you beat the heat touring in the summer. This is our first summer trip since we've gotten older..... and i am concerned about the Florida heat.

Can everyone share their suggestions and favorite ways to do this?

Wondering, I remember thunder storms daily, usually starting around the same time everyday. Can anyone give me the 411. I can't remember if it's 2 or 5 but I know it was almost like clock work.

Maybe I can make a restaurant reservation for that time.

Is there any place extremely cool for lunch?

Thunderstorms mostly are a given..it's been more random lately. You can expect anytime between 1-7p.m. The hotter the day gets the more likely you are to get them.I would go for dining between 2-4 those are the hottest times of the day. To avoid heat, I would suggest waiting in lines. They are most always cool, and lines like Forbidden Journey are ALWAYS long. Eats up a good portion of the day, and there is so much to look at.

We just picked up four air misters from the dollar spot at Target for our trip at the end of August. I also have a couple of neck wraps that you soak in water. I wear shorts and tank tops ever day and take a little sweater for cold restaurants.

We always take a break during the midday and get out of the heat and either go eat or back to the hotel and cool off in air conditioning.

We also buy cold compresses (ice packs) at either Kmart, WalMart or even a local pharmacy. While standing in the lines or out in the heat we will break one out and activate it and place it at the base of our necks and temples to provide some instant relief.

We take a break during the worst heat of the day and either swim or relax in our hotel room. We did not experience a thunderstorm every day during our 10 days in July, I'd say usually one every three days or so....lasting less than an hour. Sometimes, it would just rain with out the thunder for an hour or so. That rain was a blessing, felt great in the heat!

To keep cool during the rest of the morning/evening, I would put a we washcloth in the fridge at night, then take it out in the AM and put it in a zip-lock baggie. Then used it to wipe our faces/necks with. It would keep cool for a while and felt great! We also use fan misters and drink lots of water and Gatorade. We always had a water bottle with us to keep hydrated.

I also did lots of laundry, as we would change clothes at least twice a day. Doing laundry on vacation was a small price to pay for clean, dry clothes.

Drink lots of water -- there are fountains everywhere. I would also just go onto a water ride when I got too hot. That would keep me cool for at least two hours. Rinse, repeat (on Bilge-rat, you can literally rinse and repeat!)

We like to take a break at a sit-down air conditioned restaurant. Have a relaxing meal and drink plenty of liquids before heading back into the parks. If you know where you want to eat, make reservations, so you know you'll get in.

Just about all restaurants are air conditioned...counter and table service. There are very few attractions that do not have a/c in the queues. The queues that are not air conditioned will have fans and/or misters in line.

There are also plenty of areas to sit down in the shade, if you feel the need. Just a couple that I remember: Mystic Fountain, just outside the Sinbad show, and right where the Popeye ride pops you out of, there's an area outside the ride where lots of people sit and dry off after the ride -- that's covered by trees.

Jurassic Park area is also heavily shaded...

The only queue that I remember being really hot is the Greenhouse area in FJ. There was no A/C in that section. I think they added mister fans to this section, I am sure someone who has been in the area more recently will know.

Take some zip lock bags and asked a drink vendor fill them with ice. If you put them on your wrists, inside elbow and back of your neck it will cool you down.

We also have some of these. The really neat thing is that they require NO BATTERIES. You just 'pump' the bottle & it then operates like an aerosol spray mister.

Even though I'm from Canada I think I must be a Floridian at heart.
I love the heat!!! But I respect it and take lots of water breaks, go into cool shops and indoor rides/shows. When we go in June I will hit WWoHP at 8 am, do some rides, rest in the afternoon and go back in the later afternoon. This seems to work for us. We also booked DC and Aquatica!
