How to approach our HS morning

I'm traveling with DH, young kids, my mom and sister in mid May. My mom is quite active. I have heard that HS RD are crazy lately. I'm not sure my mom and sister would like it. I'm OK with going a little bit later to miss the rush. We have SDD 10:10-11:10, RNR/Star Tours at 11:10-12:10, TOT 12:15-1:15. We want to take a mid day break and return late afternoon. We want to also ride TSMM and Alien, see some shows.

How should we plan our HS day? Is showing up just after RD enough to miss the craziness but still get in either Alien or TSMM before our SDD FP expires? Should we do those two at night? I don't think I can get them to wait in line longer than 30/40 minutes.

We just did RD at DHS (middle of pack), we had a FP for SDD, so everyone hung right to do SDD we hung left, walked on to Aliens, then went to TSMM it was about 15 mins. So I think if you are at the mid to back of RD you should be able to do Aliens and TSMM with minimal wait.

We were there 3/11.

TSM at rope drop was an easy line for us during a very busy period. Alien spin was even shorter of a wait. I don’t think I’d wait until after RD to show up tho.

If you don’t push to be at the front, it’s not that crazy. It’s crowded, but it doesn’t have to be crazy. I’d try to be there just as the park opens and you’ll avoid the mad rush to SDD. That’s what we did and Aliens was a walk on, TSMM had minimal wait time.

I had the same experience 3/5. If you already have SDD FP, the rest of TSL is great at RD.

We also have SDD FP and had planned on arriving about 30 minutes prior to park opening, hoping to be at the back of the pack and not in the mad dash to SDD. Would we be better off hitting TSM or Alien Saucers first? Considering both the shorter wait time and avoiding the chaotic mess!

We did Alien first and then TSMM. By the time we got off AS, the crowds had moved into lines and it wasn’t as chaotic to get to TSMM. I’m not sure though that there’s a huge advantage one way or another, it’s just how we chose to do it.

You can still do RD, but get there later as you are further back in the mob. The crowd will be headed to SDD. If you follow the crowd, you should be able to nearly walk on AS2 or TSMM if you like.
Otherwise, you can walk onto just about any other ride other than SDD at RD.

You may have to use the Conan Strategy:

In all seriousness, the strategies mentioned here are what we do when we don't want to be involved in enemy crushing. Wait back a little bit and avoid the initial chaos.

Thanks everyone! Good advice. We will just arrive around RD and hang back.
