How to apply discounts? help!

Hi everyone, hope you all had a great turkey day!

Q about discounts.... last time we went to Disney we booked our trip and then the 30% discount came out on St Pat's day. Spent 4 hours on the phone to speak with a disney agent and we were able to apply the discount to our existing reservations and upgrade our room to Club Level. I'd like to try this again but was wondering:

Are we better off booking CL from the get go, and then apply a 30% discount if that discount ever comes out after booking?

OR, book a regular room and then upgrade if a discount comes out?

Book what you can afford without the discount. There's no guarantee that a discount will come out that will cover your dates or that CL will be included.

I also do the same and just book the vacation I'm willing to do if a discount isn't offered. There's been a lot of really nice last moment discounts but they have been more restrictive.

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply! I agree with you, that any discount is a bonus and book what you can afford. I guess I was afraid to book club level and not be able to apply any discount since that is the highest room level. Not sure if that makes sense but I just want to be able to take advantage of any discounts IF they are offered.
