My plans have all had to change for my upcoming trip and I now need to add Park Hopping to my first day's ticket which I have already bought. Can I do this beforehand or do I have to wait until I am in the park and go to guest services and add it then.

Just to be clear.... park hopping is not a day by day add. Your whole ticket is either parkhopping or 1 park per day. Though if you have a separate 1-day ticket for your first day then you would be able to change just that ticket.

That said, I think you would have to go to guest services for this- I believe before you begin using the ticket. You will also lose any park reservations currently attached to your tickets and will have to rebook with the new parkhopper tickets. If reservations are scarce or unavailable for any of your dates this could definitely be a problem.

I am pretty sure we will have to wait until you get there. And if you have a multi-day ticket, you can’t add it to just one day. You will have to add it to all days. And there will also have to be an open park hopping reservation in order to use it. It’s very difficult to change plans nowadays.

It’s posts like these and the one about the person who had to fly from Chicago to make a ticket change that really make you appreciate how dumb Disney’s systems have become.

So I am still confused. On our first day I have a reservation for DL. Can I add Park Hopper to that ticket once I am through the gate by going to Guest Services or are you saying that I would have to go to the ticket window outside the park and change it there and therefore I would lose my reservation for the day. If thats the case that seems very unfair.

Do you have a multi-day ticket? Or a single day ticket?

The park hopper option can technically be added to your ticket at the ticket booths before you enter the parks. You could do this the day before or if you’re local, you could go do it now, but you can only do it at the ticket booths.

If you have a multi-day ticket, the park hopper is applied to all days. It’s one price whether you have a one-day ticket or a five-day ticket (obviously there is more value with a multi-day ticket). You cannot add a park hopper to only one day of a multi-day ticket.

All that said, you can only add a park hopper to your existing ticket IF park hopper reservations are available for that day. If you’re trying to upgrade to a park hopper on the same day you plan to enter the parks, and park hopper reservations are sold out for that day, you will be denied, regardless of the reservation you already hold for that day. It’s very difficult to add a park hopper day off, especially if it’s a busy time when reservations are sold out.

We are coming from Australia so doing it head of time is out. I have a 5 day park hopper ticket and a 3 day non hopper ticket. Unfortunately I used a non park hopper ticket for my first days entry because I thought we would start our holiday in DL and not want to hop which was all fine but now I have found out that Maters ride is going to be closed from the second day of our trip for the whole time we are there so I was hoping to swap our first day to a park hopper so that we could experience the ride before it went down. Unfortunately DCA has no reservations for the whole week we are there so I can't change my reservations now, that's why I was hoping to just upgrade our 3 day ticket to park hoppers so we could hop over to DCA on our first day but it looks like this will not be possible. Wow Disney are making it so hard these days to be spontaneous or to try and change your plans. You really are locked in completely.

Porsche can you switch your reservations now? Swap the order of your tickets? That’s a better chance of getting the days you want rather than the day of.

It sounds like you’re coming next month? When do you arrive and where are you staying? If you can, I would try to visit the ticket booths the day before your first park day and see if anything is available. It’s definitely very restrictive especially if you are visiting at a busy time. Another option is to buy a separate single day ticket for DCA for that day. An added expense for sure. I actually love the Mater ride but I would not personally buy a separate ticket just for one ride (nor would I let the stress about it take away from my overall trip). You will have so many things to see and do, one ride won’t make it or break it.

Unfortunately no we can't. Our first day in the park is Sunday April 24 and having just looked at the park availability DCA is not available for the whole week. There are reservations available for DL but thats it. I couldn't risk cancelling our current reservations and trying to rebook because theres a real chance I would end up with nothing.

Why don’t you just use your 5 day ticket first?
I have park reservations for all my tickets (April 24 to May 1) and really couldn't risk cancelling any of them for fear I wouldn't be able to get any more. That week already there is no availability for DCA at all only DL left.

There was dca availability showing and then it immediately disappeared. Now that can be the starting park 5/1&2 & 4/30. Honestly, Mater is not a major ride and you’ll be fine without it.

Since park hopper tickets have more availability, I would cancel a reservation for the park hopper ticket and use it to make a reservation on April 24. If you get the reservation, cancel the single park reservation and use it to make a reservation on the day you canceled for the park hopper ticket. If you don't get the reservation, rebook the hopper reservation for the day you cancelled.

Oh thank you sooo much for this advice. I had no idea there were two calendars to look at, one for single use tickets and one for park hoppers. I switched my single use ticket for another day when we didn't really need park hopper and moved my park hopper ticket to the Sunday so now we can start in DL and then hop over to DCA and ride Mater before it goes down for refurb. I am sooo excited I just really wanted to experience it once and see Carsland in all its glory before refurb walls went up. We can now have a great night in DCA. Thanks again I am super happy.

I am so glad this worked out! I know you have put a lot of time into planning this vacation for your family, and it is going to be awesome for you all :)

Thanks for your kind thoughts. My daughter and I are both on the autism spectrum so planning is really important, that way we don't get overwhelmed when we get there. We are now both getting super excited and looking forward to our trip so much.

I hope you and your daughter have an amazing trip and make lots of wonderful new memories. 🥰

Hi, is this something you have first hand experience with, or know someone who has?

I purchased 2 day/1 park per day tickets at Target as soon as I found out about the ticket price increases in Oct.

I recently considered trying to upgrade those tickets to Park Hoppers, and asked about doing so in person, the day before our first reservation.

This is what the Chat CM told me:

We can't just add Park hopping , that unfortunately is not how it works, Park hoppers are not a feature, is a complete different type of ticket that you would have to upgrade , I am so sorry.

I thought I had heard about people upgrading to hoppers at the booths, but wanted to double check. They did offer me the chance to physically mail a printout of the tickets I purchased online from Target (!!!) and be refunded what I paid, and purchase the upgraded tickets from Disneyland at the current price, thus losing my $110 savings on 2 tickets. I declined. And I am still baffled by the request to print out tickets and physically mail them!
