How tall does a man have to be to be "tall" to you

I am 5' - my Dad is 5'2", as is one of my brothers, the other one (deceased was 5'5", we thought he was a giant!!:teeth:

DH is 5'10", my 16 yr. old son is currently 5'8.5". I consider both of them to be tall.

Dana, probably the only 4-year DISer who has never met Dan

Nope, Dana - anouther 4 yr. DISer here who has never personally met any DISers (I'm shy) but I have spoken to lots, including Dan, on the phone.:D

Pam,I am always amazed to read you are 5 foot. I read that the other day somewhere. I pciture you my height for some reason.

Isn't that funny how our mental images are so seldom what is reality?

Tall is 6'2" and taller

My DH is only 5'5", same as me :)

I'm 5'6" my DBF is about 5'9", and to me he is on the shorter side. My father is 6'4" (my mother is 5'4") and all the uncles (except 1 but his GF makes up for his short stature - shes probably close to 6') and male cousins in the family are over 6' (along with most of my father's friends). So for me - to be tall you have to be well over 6'4". One of my father's friends is about 6'9" - I would classify that as tall.

LOL, Dana, no, there are quite a few more. :) I keep working on it though.

I am 6' 6 1/2", Marie is 5' 1/2". The half is important to Marie becuase it makes her taller than 'just' 5, the half was important to me, as back in the Selective Service draft days of the 60's, it made me 1Y classification, too tall, no draft, unless national emergency.

How interesting, Dan! So what, they think of very tall men as a disability? I would think it would be the opposite, tall being associated with strong.

My bf is 5'8 and I call him short (he thinks he's short too)

Tall to me (a twenty something) .. is 5'11 +

Since I'm height challenged, nobody has to be very tall to be considered tall to me.;)

Seriously, I would think you would have to be at least 6' to be tall.

Hmmm, I never knew this either. Would that be because it would be difficult to have the extremes (much shorter than average or much taller than average) because of equpment, training, and stuff like that?

Bet, that is probably right, that makes sense.

Judi - you cannot believe the people who say that to me! When most of my column readers meet me at shows - that is the first thing out of their mouths! They always say, "But you write like you are a big person not to be messed around with!!":o

:rotfl:

I would love to be tall! I must confess to jumping into frays and confrontations and then thinking "just how do you think you are going to defend yourself now, Pam??"

I'm 5'9", so they have to be at least 6 inches taller than me for me to consider them "tall"

That is so funny, Pam! I don't know why I thought you tall -- you definately seem self confident, but then I know plenty of short people who are self confident too. You are one of those people on the net that I have a very definate picture of in my mind, some people are vague images, for some reason my mental image of you is very specific, and you being tiny just blew it all to smithereens. LOL!

Judi,
I'm also chunky now, too!:o I was a total toothpick until I turned 30! I always tell everyone that if I had at least 5" more on me, I would look pretty darn good!:p

I'd say 6' and up. Dh is 6' and I'm 5'2" and I don't notice the difference so much except when I look at picture of us.

Don't be so sure of that Pam. I'm about 10 feet tall (did you read my long tall glass of water thread the other day where I was like a freak show???) and I'm chunky too. :p
