How soon in advance?

How soon in advance are you all making your hotel reservations? We are planning a trip for January 2006, just wondering when I should be looking to make reservations, I'm already looking for deals.

January is off season - so I would wait - you can probably get some great deals later on - now you would pay rack prices.

I guess I think the opposite. I have found for us that the earlier I book things the cheaper they are. For instance, the Marriott resorts are almost always a great deal cheaper if you book them as far out as possible. I recently got a rate of $145 a night at the Grande Vista for June. Then when I checked again the rate was $249 a night!

But I usually wind up booking a reservation that I can cancel without penalty. If you use Hotel Kingdom, you will have to pay something.

I think you just have to be on the lookout for deals and book when you see something you like that will give you the option to maybe cancel if something better comes along.

heather -you are so right.

that is what I get for thinking skyauction all the time on this board.

skyauction has good deals the closer to your trip as possible!

so get a reservation that you know you can cancel without problems.
