How old would your child have to be to be alone at the parks?

This will be our first time to let our ds 16 go to a park by himself with his friend. Still not sure if we will be in the same park or not:confused3 It is terrifying :scared1: to let your child grow up. I think we have raised him well and his friend is well behaved also, don't trust everyone else, but can't blame everyone else either. I keep remembering that my parents raised me well, I never gave them much trouble, but I do remember a few things as a teen:rolleyes1 if my mother only knew  But I was and still am a good person, so I think you have to let go and pray  for the best :goodvibes

I'm 15, but our last trip I was 14. I brought along a friend, and we were allowed to wander by ourselves. Basically, we would ride to the parks with the folks (we stayed off site) and mull around a few, then go wherever. We checked in periodically, then when we were going to leave. Since we were staying offsite, we couldn't just leave the park and hop. However, we did stay at SSR our last night. We walked over to DTD, came back and the folks had gone to see fireworks. We watched a little TV, then went to go get dinner. By the time we came back, everyone was there and ready to settle in for the night.

This year, we're staying at OKW. I'm thinking we'll have independence to go to the parks whenever as long as we leave a note and have our phones. I like the independence. Being able to roam around the parks and be teenage guys is alot nicer than sticking around with my sometimes goofy folks.

I can understand why some parents feel so afraid to let their kids go off on their own. I don't like it either. However, my philosophy is to let our son have a little more rope a little at a time rather than just cut him loose suddenly when he becomes an adult and has no experience. (By the way, adulthood is 18 not 21 like someone said earlier.)

That said, I still don't like it!
