How old were you when you first went to a funeral?

Why? My grandmother passed when our kids were 1, 1, 3, 6 and 8, all attended the open casket wake and funeral Mass, my 3 year old loved her so much, she stroked her cheek.
Because he'd never been in a setting like that before, everyone was pretty broken up, and I just wanted to mourn my beloved Daddy and support my Mom without having to worry about him.

16 or 17, it was my cousins. It should have been 14, but I was too uneasy/scared/ashamed about attending my friends funeral (cancer). I regret not going.

Don't remember for sure, but I think I was well into adulthood. My grandparents that lived in the US had all died long before I was born. My godmother died when I was 5 but I did not go to that one, my parents thought it best to leave me at home. I have no memory of her except a photograph. I remember a couple of aunts and an uncle passing after I had kids, so I was in my thirties.

I was 14, that year both of my Grandmothers passed. I didn't mind the funerals but the wakes freaked me out a little. The very first one was a wake that was held at her home. The Coffin was set up in the living room (ironically) and according to protocol there had to be a 24 hour vigil, meaning that someone had to be awake and with the body at all times. The funeral was delayed for a couple of days while we waited for my Aunt to get there from Kansas by train. She was afraid to fly plus she couldn't afford it. By the time the funeral came around the whole family was punchy from lack of sleep and having to stare at a corpse for days on end. The second one wasn't as weird because it was held at a funeral home, no vigil required. Good times! Just a heads up, the older you get the more of those you have to attend.

I was in late elementary school. My friend's younger sister died and a few of us went to support the friend. It was open casket and I remember being very uncomfortable with that.
