How old is too old for a stroller at WDW?

DS was five the first time and he was in the stroller the whole time. This time at 6 we only did it on Animal Kingdom days .. and one evening in Epcot that we were out really late.

Next Christmas we will be done unless there are some major foot issues .. blisters etc.

i have to say the stroller is more for me, LOL i love having a place to stash stuff.

Im in agreement with it all depend son your child. Personally I wouldnt push my son around in a stroller and he is 5. Mostly just because it would kill my back and I am so happy to be stroller free! Although I did envy those with a stroller to stash stuff! :rotfl2: My son wouldnt sit in a stroller since the age of 2 so no worries here. HE did great and we never really did a full day anywhere. We had lots of rest times so it was good.

Have a fun trip!

Our last trip in November was the first time I didn't rent a stroller for my younger children.

So, the last time we used one was our trip in 2007 when the kids were 7 and 8 1/2 years old. The 8 1/2 year old really only sat in it near the end of the day at Epcot (which was our last night at WDW). The stroller was mainly for my 7 year old who had medical problems and tired easily.

I like having the kids in the stroller because it's easier for me to walk around and enjoy the sites. When I have to constantly keep an eye on 2 kids, it seems I'm missing some of the sites. kwim?

I never noticed anyone looking at us funny when my kids were in the stroller. But if someone did, I wouldn't give it any thought.

I thought it was easy to push both of the kids in the stroller. But of my kids are tiny. Probably about 100 lbs. for both kids.

My DS who is now 10, hasn't rode in a stroller since he was 4.

Our last trip in October, DD just turned 5 and it was her 1st trip without a stroller. We walked the neighborhood prior to the trip and I told her for months, no stroller this trip, no stroller this trip.

She never whined or wanted carried one time and we toured from open to close.

Just the other day, she said to me, aren't you proud of me mommy for being a big girl and not riding in a stroller at Disney World? I told her yes I am.

Other than not having a place to store stuff, it was so nice not having a stroller. I forgot how great it was. :)

I have seen on other forums that they recommend a stroller even if you don't have kids. They say bring one for just your gear. I have thought about that, but have yet come to that. LOL!!

My DD is 6 and we will be bringing a stroller for her. I have every year. This may be the last year she fits the Maclaren. She is big for her age- really tall- could pass for 9 easily...and we never get comments or even looks. Wouldn't notice anyway probably. ;) We also have DS2 who will have a stroller. I like to walk fast and walk a lot. Saves time for us... and frustration. The walk back to Beach Club or Dolphin after Epcot at night would be torture without the strollers. This way we get to stay out later and not worry about whether or not she'll be too fatigued. Plus she always has a seat for snacks or fireworks and parade.

Last year we rented a single stroller on our first day for DS3...and we got doubles every day after! Our DD5 just couldn't handle it all day. We did not leave the parks for an afternoon nap, and basically went all day.
In addition, we brought coolers with drinks/snacks in for the day so we really needed the stroller to hold our stuff! When we go again (I hope), our kids will be 7 and 4/5 and I will not hesitate to use a stroller...although I will find an alternative to renting one for $30 per day!

FYI-MK has new strollers that are much smaller than the blue ones. http://www.wdwinfo.com/tips_for_touring/StrollerRental.htm

A CM at Epcot told us that Saturday was the last day for them to use the old type strollers. They were going to the newer strollers like MK because they could stack 6 instead of the 3 they are currently using.

Yes, they are very small. My 4 year old fit in it perfectly. I can't imagine a much bigger child. She weighs around 32 lbs now and 40 1/2 inches tall.

ETA: I would take a stroller or rent no matter the age if you think your child needs one. Beats having a cranky tired child.

We just got back from 7 days with our 5 1/2 year old and 4 year old. Both of their little butts rode in the stroller 98% of the time. I couldn't imagine them walking the whole day. They were both totally compliant and willing to sit down, especially when we were trekking somewhere.

I'm thinking we'll be back in 18 months or so and if they don't outweigh the 100 lb limit on the stroller we would rent, I'm going for it again. While it's a pain to push them sometimes...espeically up that big old hill to the monorail in MK...it's soooooooo much better than a totally tired kid breaking down for us. But I definitely agree with everyone else. You know your kids best. Ignore what others think. I saw a kid that had to be like 8 in a Graco baby stroller. I know he was squished in there, but he was happily sitting in it! LOL

I would agree it depends on the child. Our 5yr old who is more the size of a 6-7 yr old has been riding in our old umbrella style stroller this trip (just barely fits in it - it's a Kidco stroller that is similar to a Maclaren). We have decided this is the last trip we will be using the stroller. Our next trip to WDW will not be for over another year probably, so hopefully by then, he will not need it at all. This trip, he is still prone to whining about his legs being tired after like, 10 steps, lol. So the stroller has been invaluable - keeps him happy and makes it easier for us to get places at a quicker pace. I will be glad when we are done with it though. He is getting too heavy to push!

do you think an eight year old would fit in a double-I can't tell by the pictures I have seen of the new strollers but they do look small...

I think the double would be good for a child that age. My dd4 fit into the single perfectly. I think a taller child would be cramped. The single strollers were small.

We do the rental thing. we get a double. One dd is 3 and weighs 42 pounds. Older one is 6 and weighs 56 . They both fit weight-wise but dd 6 has trouble keeping her feet in. I sometimes wonder if its appropriate for her,but its a long day at disney. The rental seems to hold them both without issue. The wife and I were talking about a way that we could rent 'jazzies' next time, tie a rope to the stroller, and just tow the girls!:rotfl:
