How old are your children to leave them alone at the resort

On our next trip to WDW, my daughter will be 17 years old. If I wanted to go to the park and she wanted to hang out at the hotel (Shades of Green), do you think that would be ok? It would be during the day if I do it at all.

I was 13 when my grandmother took me to Miami Beach and let me run all over the hotel by myself all day long. Of course, times were different then. But still, 17...I wouldn't even be asking that question, I'd be letting my child do it without worrying too much. this is someone who'll be in college next year, right?

I have a 17 yo DD and 15 yo DS. I would feel comfortable leaving either alone at WDW. I left them alone at the beach house we rented this past summer. (One alone, not both together, but they would be ok with that too.)

I let my daughter 11 and her freind 12, do a few things alone at WDW but had walkie talkies and kept in touch

Last Feb, we took our DNiece (16) with us to WDW. Once or twice she went to the parks on her own using WDW transportation and a couple of times we left her and DD - 3 yrs - in the hotel room. We had our cell phone and she had one, and the regular phone in the room. Worked out great. I think as long as you have communication and some schedule like, "I will call at 2pm" or something like that, it will be fine. I am a real "nervous nelly" but I felt pretty good about her safety while on Disney property and using Disney transportation. Of course, it depends on your comfort level and DD's responsibility but I think she would be fine.

I always figured 11 is babysitting age so 11 is when I would let my kids stay alone as long as they could get hold of me if they needed to. (Of course my kids are currently 4 - I may change my mind by the time they are 11. :) ) Certainly at 17 I'd let them be alone.

Just keep in mind that laws may be different in Florida than where you live. It's illegal here to leave a child under the age of 12 alone at home so I would think the same would go for hotel rooms. If someone found out they were there alone you could get in trouble. Most likely that wouldn't happen but you can never be too safe. :)

I may at 15 but then again by the time my daughter is 15 I may rethink that....the youngest baby sitter I ever left my daughter with was 15....
at 11 I would still be hiring a babysitter to watch HER LOL!!!

I'd say 17 is definitely old enough to stay by herself. Lots of kids start college at 17, and there isn't anybody to watch over them there.

I took a vacation by myself when i was 17. I flew from STL to California and then to Florida. Even though i was visiting my sibblings, they had to work while i was there. So i was on my own to do and see what i wanted.

I would say 17 is plenty old enough to be left alone.

I allowed my DS to wander in the resort or park we were all in at 13. I let him go to other areas of the world on his own or with friends at 15, never had any problems.

Only rule he had to check in periodically, more for my fears than his worries.

17 is fine, provided she is a responsible person.
I went to Bermuda for a week without supervision when I was 17. ;)
