vacation with points?

We have Jan 1st to the 12th booked with the night of the 6th booked with CRO(Friday night). (MS show nothing in their inventory for cash nights yet)

We will have the reservations linked. Is there anything more we can do to avoid having to switch rooms.

We will be staying at SSR in a 2 bedroom.

Thanks

Angela

One stay we have to switch rooms twice in one stay. That was at BCV and part of the problem was the unit was a 2-br. At BCV there are three types of 2-BR units: the 2-BR lock-off, the 2-BR dedicated with sleeper sofa in the 2nd BR and the 2-BR dedicated with two queens in the 2nd BR. We did everything right as well, as far as referencing the linkage. Make sure both your reservations reference each other's number, and make sure it is the first request on your MS booking. At SSR, I bet you will be fine and not have to move. Also, if your reservation is for a 2-BR dedicated or just requested a 2-BR w/o specifying dedicated or lock-off, I bet you have a great chance of not moving. With the lock-offs, they sometimes have to kick you out to split the unit into a studio and a 1-BR. January is usually low occupancy as well.

Didn't I read here that the 2 bedroom units with 2 queens in the second bedroom at BCV are not available for cash guests - even those who book via MS? If that is true, it may have contributed to your double move. YCK! (I hate to move and that is why we use points for weekend nights, too). Hope you had a good time in spite of the inconvenience.

Best wishes -

I wish I didnt need to use a cash night but I ran out of points. Maybe the chances of not having to move would be better if I rented points or had some transferred to me.

I've never heard of anyone having to move if the reservation was made using all points - no matter where the points came from originally. Obviously, that assumes that all the nights were for the same resort in the same type of unit and that everything was properly "linked" if more than one member reserved nights for the reservation.

You may find this to be more cost effective anyhow. I would hate to have to move. Good luck!

That was exactly our problem. Our first room was a 2 queen room (on CRO cash) and we had to vacate after our cash reservation. We were moved to another room, a sofabed room (on DVC points). Front desk said they should have caught the problem and they could have assigned rooms accordingly, but they did not see the notation in the computer, but admitted it was there. The front desk apologized and went above and beyond, IMO. We were very appreciative, as I knew the did not have to do anything per the "rules". And no, I was not a naughty DVCer.

For the OP, I would wait a while longer to see if you can get the member discount rate for your SSR 2-BR unit before renting points, etc. If you book cash through MS it can be linked to your points stay, and you will not have to move. The problem with a CRO/MS booking is the reservation systems do not communicate with each other, so any "continuing stays" are handled manually.

We havent had to move, but we did have to go down to the front desk and check in and out twice in one trip... and there was a room charging privledge delay... first thing in the morning the old keys stopped working and the new keys didnt work until late in the evening.

This occured at HHI

We did NOT have to switch rooms when our cash nights through CRO were in the middle of our stay. We DID have to go to get new room keys, then do it again when we were back on points. The cash nights were not DVC nights so certain minor things were gone, like free use of DVDs and free local calls.

I do 3-4 trips per year, and I ALWAYS have cash as part of a points ressie. I never had to change rooms, as long as I stayed in the same sized accommodations, but I did have to go down to the desk to check out, and then check back in. When you check in, make sure they know that that's what you are doing, and ask if they will make you change rooms. :goodvibes

 :Once we had to check out, called the bellman to store our luggage ( lots of it for a 2 bedroom!) only to check in at 4:00 and be in the same room! UGH.. so the bellman ( same guy) had to bring our luggage back to the same room.. He said he felt like he was in the twilight zone. He did get a good tip, but I was really angry...But it's one of the hazards of having a CRO reservation....crazy:

:sunny: We sometimes use cash on weekends instead of points. We always explain the situation when we check in. We have never had to move, but we have had to change keys. When we have moved resorts we have always found the staff very accomodating.
