How often do you weigh yourself?

I have always lived by the scale, and my feelings about myself have been determined by the scale.

I am obsessed with the scale again. I weigh myself every day. I know I shouldn't, but does it really hurt anything?

Yesterday, I got on the scale in the morning. Up 1/2 pound!!!!!! I couldn't believe it, because I have been doing really, really well. Today the 1/2 pound is gone, but not any more weight with it.

Last time I did Atkins, I lost about a 1/2 pound almost every day. The weight just melted away. In the first month alone, I lost 17 pounds.

I am worried that I am not doing this diet correctly, or eating too much fat. Is it possible to eat to much fat in the form of nuts on this plan. I have had no flour or sweets of any kind.

How can I get myself to stop weighing every day????? Anyone else weigh daily??

I weigh myself every day but I don't let the scale dictate how I feel. I know my offical weigh in day is Monday morning and that's the one that counts. I just do it every day to see how I'm doing. Some days I'm up which reminds me to take it easy, drink more water, exercise, etc. Some days its down which makes me want to stay on plan. I'm doing WW online and I'm very happy to be in the 1 - 1.5 lbs per week loss. It took a long time to get the weight on and it will take a while to get it off.

 Hi again.

I weigh every morning too. My weight goes up and down all of the time. As long as it goes down more than up, I'm happy. :) I don't think it's a problem unless you let it control you. If you get so upset when you see a gain that you go binge, it's probably better to just weigh once a week.

It's very easy to overeat nuts. The portions are very small. Did you measure or count out your nuts? Also, they are very salty which can cause you to retain water.

Last, be sure and drink all of your water. It really helps. :)

I often weigh myself daily too, but it is only a little check in because I know that it really fluxuates throughout the week. My official WW weigh in is on Wednesdays and that is the one I track. Even though an "up" day on the scale tempts you to panic, it is TOTALLY NORMAL. Just take it as a reminder to stick closer to the plan. (and only 1/2 lb either way is NOTHING to worry about - I can gain 1/2 lb or more in a day just by eating something salty and retaining water)

Don't worry about how quickly you are losing and comparing with the other time you tried Atkins- It is actually healthier to have a slower weight loss - it stays off better in the long run.

I am doing the WW plan (I am a lifetime member, and I love the plan) so I can't help you with your nut question according to Atkins, but in general you do need to watch your portions no matter what type of food it is - it all boils down to burning more calories than you are taking in.

Best wishes to you! If the scale gets to be too much of an obsession, you may be better off putting yourself on a "scale diet" of only weighing once or twice a week to save your sanity.

I try to weigh myself once a day, but sometimes I get obsessive about it and weigh myself twice a day(once in the morning and then again before I go to bed)
My offical weigh in day is Monday, and I have been trying to lose 5 or 6 pounds a month. I want to do this slowly and be healthly and not feel starved.
I find that exercise is just as important as the diet, when the weather is nice I walk outside. In the evening I have being doing the walk away the pounds tapes or I do a toning and firming video.
Even though I weigh myself each day I do not let it determine how I feel about myself. I know that my weight will fluctuate from time to time.

I definitely became scale-obsessed a couple of weeks ago. I started off weighing once a week at home... but then I started hopping on the scale at Curves once or twice a week. Then I started dragging the scale out at home on non-weigh-in mornings - and suddenly I realized that I was absolutely obsessed over the number!

Three weeks ago I said "enough", and vowed to only weigh in at home on Tuesday mornings. No more scale at Curves (except for monthly measure days), no more extra weigh-ins, "just to check". It really felt like a scale diet (thanks JenEeyore)! It was hard at first, but now I've managed to almost forget about it during the week - I only remembered earlier this morning that I was supposed to weigh in! It works for me.

My DH, on the other hand, weighs himself every morning, but he plugs the daily numbers into a weighted moving average, so the daily weight is averaged into a "true weight" number. By using this method he avoids the up-and-down weight roller coaster, while still tracking his (slow) weight loss. He uses a Palm Pilot program from The Hacker's Diet - yeah, my DH is a computer dork. But I love him! :teeth:

Good luck with your battle with the scale!

I say, throw away the scale. A scale doesn't tell you much anyway, and our bodies are always fluctuating. You could be retaining water one day, or you are losing muscle instead of fat, you just don't know. And looking at a number can get very frustrating if it's not the number you want. Look in the mirror or try on some clothes, that will tell you what you want to know. :D

You weight will fluctuate from day to day. You can't expect it to be the same everyday, and you can't expect it to continually go down. :)

I also weigh myself everyday, just as a guide. The truth comes on either Wednesday evening or Thursday morning at Weight Watchers.

If you are too obsessed about it, then I would DEFINITELY only make it a weekly thing, if even that. Maybe twice a month. It can get to be too overwhelming, and have a very negative impact.

I weigh myself once a week, and if it wasn't for the weekly check in thread I would only weigh myself once a month. Personally I don't see the point in weighing yourself every day, if you know that your doing the right things, then the weight will come of regardless of how many times a week/day you weigh yourself.

I am now th owner of a scale. So I hate to admit it, I weight myself a few times a day. NO you can not let it decide your mood at the moment because your weight is constantly changing LIterally I think hour by hour.
Anyway I to have my offical weigh in date which is done at the gym on the 30 th of every month.
Although, I didnt have a scale for the reason that I wouldnt obsess over it (which I am now doing) I think its a good thing to do everyday....
For me, it keeps me on track I think the scale is a great daily incentive.
just my 2 cents.

Just once a week at my WW meeting is enough for me ... I know the fluctuations would drive me crazy :)

I used to weigh myself once a week, now I weigh about once a month. I rely more on my inches lost now, to measure my success.

I told my boyfriend he should be doing the same thing... he gets discouraged easily if the scale doesn't show a loss.... even if he maintains, he doesn't seem happy. Recently, I told him to check his measurements ... he seems to be losing inches and belt sizes but not necessarily weight. :p

How can a person lose inches without actual weight??? I have heard that the "muscle weighs more than fat" theory was false, a myth.

Does the weight just move around?

Is your boyfriend doing alot of exercise, whereby he is building muscle at the same time that he is losing fat?

I weigh myself every couple of days. A women's weight can fluctuate so easily based on water so weighing daily can be very discouraging. I also keep the scale in a bathroom that I don't use everyday so that helps as well. I say I check it about once every 3 to 4 days just to make sure I'm not gaining 3 or 4 pounds - then I would worry. Seeing a half pound gain doesn't send me into a frenzy.

It would be so easy to become discouraged from weighing yourself daily. Different variables cause our body weight to fluctuate from one day to the next. For me its much better to weigh in once per week at a consistent time.

Knowing that doesnt make it any less tempting for me to jump on the scale anyway and see where I am at. Getting on that scale daily makes me way to critical. If I saw a gain no matter how small I feel I must have done something wrong and rethink my strategy when really the plan I'm following is just fine.

A1A1,

I always thought muscle weighed more than fat! It wasnt until I worked in a gym that I learned that was a myth. A lb. of fat weighs a lb. just as a lb. of muscle is still a lb. too. Muscle is just denser and actually takes up less space than fat (which results in inches lost, not weight lost).

Doing some sort of strenth training while dieting will increase your results in a huge way. Not to mention the wonderful health benefits for woman especially.

Ahhhh so much easier said than done!

almost daily. I try not to let it dictate my mood, but sometimes it can get the best of you. When that happens, I stay a way for a while. Good luck to all
