I was just talking to a girlfriend of mine, and she only goes once every two weeks.

I wind up going 2-3 times a week, once for the big stuff, then again for just fresh meat and produce.

I have to go everyday. I can't plan meals out ahead of time because I never know who is going to be around to eat, and I am a terrible cook. Everyday we have the same discussion, "What do you want for supper?" "I don't know, what do you want?" I hate it when they say "I don't know" then I make something and they hate it. I decide most meals, but I get sick of it. I am also sick of going to the store everyday.

The same goes with me. Another thing I can't stand to hear is................THERE NOTHING TO EAT!!! and I just spent close to $150.oo at the grocery store. Boys there eating me out of house and home:)

I do a "major shop" twice a month. DH gets paid n the 15th and the 30th.

It's a 2 cart operation and costs me over $200.

In between times, I have to stop at the store once or twice a week for milk, bread, fruit, etc.

We are another family that is there almost every day. We live right across from a shopping center with a food store so that makes it all to easy for us to run and get something. We also end up using the food store as an ATM machine. Most ATM machines charge the upwards of $1.75 to take money out, so I would rather run in and pick up 1 thing we need and get cash back that way.

Since DS got married I just go every two weeks. I do stop about once or twice a week though to pick up milk or bread.

Once per week, usually. I do the "big" shopping at Sam's Club or Costco once every 2 to 3 weeks but I have to go weekly for the milk, lunchmeats, fruits & fresh veggies. Once per month I shop the paper products & cleaning needs at Sam's or Costco's.

Once every 10 days or so. If we're having salads, we'll swing by and pick one up, but the big trips happen between 10 days and 2 weeks.

I 'm single, but live in Japan. I can't believe how many times I go to the grocery store! Now mind you, I walk everywhere, or take the train. I have no car here. So when I get off the train after work, I stop in the grocery store at the train station exit and pick up a few things every day. Tonight it was salmon (just enough for dinner tonight for one), carrots, and cucumbers. Then I have toa carry it 1/2 mile home. Tomorrow night it will be shrimp for one meal and a few eggs, broccoli, or a potato or two. I feel like such a hunter/gatherer here! It's such a change for me. Man, I miss Walmart!

Major grocery shopping 2 times/ month. We ussually end up going back 3-4 more times for more milk and yogurt. :)

We make one major trip a month. With small milk, bread and so forth trips every 3 or 4 days.

Once every 2 weeks and I make two trips into the store. One for my big stuff...pop, bottled water, litter, etc...and then one for my actual groceries. From leaving home to getting back home it usually take me 4 hours. It is a day that I dread.

 I WORK in a grocery store, so just about EVERYDAY! We have bleach for 1.00 a gallon, and buy one get one free on other items, so yes, I shop EVERYDAY! I spent $64.00 today, and didn't buy ANY meat!

The grocery industry has changed so much over the years.
A few basic rules that I noticed:

Don't do your heavy grocery shopping between the hours of 4-6 p.m. You will get the nastiest looks.

The less busiest times after 8:00 p.m. at nite or 6-9:00 a.m. in the morning, but watch out for the coffee and donut people.

Beaware on Saturday nites, nothing on the shelves.

I grocery shop at the busiest grocery store in a town of 48,000 The food moves off it's shelves and the produce is always top notch fresh.

Our local grocery store in a town of over 2,000 is good for pick-up things. It is a larger grocery store, but the produce and meat are terrible.

DELSWIFE - I would go crazy too with your situation. You sound like a mom trying to please everyone. You need to sit down with your family and make a list of favorite foods. Make a chart or calendar and make them sign their schedule on it. Crock Pots are a great way to make great suppers. I've gotten to the point, if they don't like it, you don't eat. I have 3 teenagers and a 21 year old son. While the 3 older one's were all in highschool, they were all in sporting events and other things too. They brought friends home too. I would make chili, spaghetti, hot ham sandwiches, chicken breasts and salad. If they didn't like it, too bad. Your letting everyone walk all over you. I just listed 4 meals that you could buy for and that would be 4 less days to go shopping. Freeze, when you need it, micro-wave it to thaw it, then cook it.

Since giving birth to DD # 3 in April, I have been having our groceries delivered once a week. I shop online and Peapod delivers to me every tuesday. To me the 4.95 delivery fee is worth not having to drag an infant and a 2 yr old to the grocery store. I have also found that my weekly grocery bill has gone down because by shopping online and not having to go aisle by aisle, I stick to my list and have avoided making impulse purchases. Every two weeks I make a run to Target for paper products, laundry stuff and cleaning supplies, I really do that because I am addicted to Target.:)

That having groceries delivered sounds so sweet. I wish we had that kind of service around here. I go around the first and the 15th and do the big shopping. I use to drag 3 kids along, now I usually just have my daughter. It is still hard to do because I do alot more impulse shopping with her with me than by myself. I always take a calculator though, so that helps me stick to the budget.
I end up running out of diapers, bread, milk, koolaid, sugar, fruit, and a couple of other thing so I end up going in between the two week period and getting another load of stuff
So, I guess the answer is about once a week.
