Long time lurker, but the recent TCD report brought me out. We have had AP for several years. Our passes expire in Oct. and may not renew them . I was wondering how often or do you camp at Fw without going to the parks ?

We usually go to the parks at least once during our stays at the Fort. But we often spend a lot of time at the Fort.

We usually keep our AP for a couple of years, then take a couple of years off. I tend to get a little burned out after a while, and after a break, they've refurbed, or put new stuff in and it's fun again. BUT, the fort is as many times as I can afford in a year!!!:) It's so nice to wake up and just relax without rushing to get to the parks, and there's so much to do, and enough Disney to get my fix without spending a ton of money! You will probably find many people here who go to the fort without going to the parks.

Welcome, former Lurker!

We purchase the Florida Residents' Seasonal Passes which have blackout dates for most of the Summer, and around the Christmas and Easter holidays.

So, on occasion, we camp at the Fort without going to the parks.

The Fort is the best part of our visits to WDW, so having an opportunity to relax and enjoy all of the amenities and activities at the Fort is great! And, when you feel like a change of scenery, there are boats and buses waiting to take you anywhere in WDW. You could be there for months and still not see it all.

We did it for the first time in 2008 and it was refreahing not to rush around!
The kids were young so we did a lot of looping and going where we had not been in a long time.
I think we may have to do it again soon.
JUST RELAX isnt that what vacation is for.

For us it has been the last two times. I have not missed the parks a ton but the Fort has so much to do when you take the time to enjoy it!

AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE!!!

Its 2 completely different vacations!! A FORT ONLY vacation is about chillin' like a villain, relaxin and reflectin...doing nuttin and lots of it. Goin home and planning the return trip.

Hitting the parks is like mainlining shots of caffiene, rush rush, go, hurry up and wait, and run for it, wait for it, cram through it and sleep it off...go home exhausted and being glad to be home.

I know Im getting old...but the first seems like ALOT more fun to me!

We usually go into the parks. A long 4th of July weekend this year will be out 9th trip in 2 years. We have APs so we usually go into the parks at some point. Having said that I think this next trip we are going to take more time off to do FW things. There is so much to do there that you can't get done if you are at the parks. A little R & R at FW is a good thing. Next year we may skip the APs for a year and just do FW camping. I'll never get tired of FW, but even I can admit that the parks are not as important as they once were.

Since we re-discovered WDW in 2003 we have made 9 trips. All have been to FtW with the exception of a split stay in February 2006 where we tried AKL for the first 2 nights. The least we have stayed in 5 nights and longest is 14 nights. In all we have spent just 15 days in the theme parks. In fact during at least 5 of our trips we didn't visit the parks at all. We hit the pool, enjoyed the other amenities like the horseback rides, Segway tours and watercraft rentals. Much of the time we relax or resort hop especially during our Christmas visits.

We go to the parks about once every 3-4 trips. Otherwise, we just spend our time at the fort or monorail hoping.

I take my kids to the playground every time we go to the fort. those are the only parks I k now of.

We've been AP holders since 1991 or 1992 - I forget.

In the beginning, God cre...., oh - wrong story - sorry. When we first got our AP's, we would spend a lot of time at the parks whenever we camped at the Fort. Now because we live so close to WDW we frequent the parks on our days off. When we go to the Fort, it's just to enjoy the Fort. We may go into a park in the evening or early morning - but that's a rare occasion. We just love to loop around, meet people, and chill on Burl's Porch or Meadow's Porch in the ol' rockin' chairs!

If it is just the DW & I, we may stay at the campsite a few days during the whole vacation, but we still keep our AP's renewed. We may just look at each & say - "Hey, lets go ride Space Mountain & get some ice cream" and we are gone.

Sometimes if we do a non-Disney vacation (Universal, Sea World, Bush Gardens), we still stay at the Fort. Most of the other campgrounds in the area are 'dumps' compared to FW & not much cheaper. I have stayed at two different KOA's, Sherwood Forest, & Tropical Palms and they were all a joke.

There is just nothing like the Fort.

We have seasonal passes and went this past weekend, didn't go into the parks once. Three weeks ago we went in 1 of the nights and 1 day. I love going and just relaxing. I would say that we don't go in more than we do, and we go about 1x a month.

We are going back again this Thanksgiving and I'm thinking that we will do more of the things around the Fort. We will take a couple of days to visit the parks but not as many as usual since we were just there last Thanksgiving. I'm still plannning out our trip for this year.

We live nearby so we don't go into the parks unless we get comped now.(we have friends with forever passes). Just hanging out at the fort is the attraction for us.
