How often do you actually use your dining room table for meals?

Used the diningroom I think twice for Thanksgiving Dinner. The kitchen table only when DH is home, which is the weekends. During the week we use the kitchen counter/breaksfast bar.

It's only DH and me home now and we use TV trays in the family room each night. Our kitchen table will accomodate 6 easily and the bar will take on 4. Only use the formal dining room at Christmas when family is all here. Table there seats 16! If more than 4 people visit any time during the year, we'll usually end up using the dining room. It's a very formal looking room and I think most people feel uncomfortable eating there so we try to avoid it.

We have a table that seats 4 in the kitchen so that's where we eat on a regular basis. The dining room table is big enough for DH to roll out those blueprints. Also when he's working out there, the table must be clear - no tablecloth.

Just curious, is that the entrance to your home in the pic?

3 times a year if that...

halloween.......thanksgiving....christmas...... :goodvibes

Approx. 3 times a year: One in April when we do breakfast w/ our parents and other friends and/or relatives before a big festival in our town. The 2nd is Thanksgiving and the 3rd is Christmas Day brunch.

We have a cheap, but nice kitchen table we got at Big Lots that we use for regular meals. However, I have to confess, we are big on eating in the living room while watching tv! I know they say that isn't good, but we are all together and we watch something nice (usually Disney) and talk about our day.

we have a full eat-in kitchen and a separate dining room. We eat supper at the kitchen table together every day. It's often the only time we get to spend together as a family!

Our dining room table gets use when we have company, which is not often enough. I just hate it that I'm not that great a housekeeper!

Right now, the dining room table has a lifesized drawing of DD on it--I traced her body and made her label her heart, lungs, stomach, diaphragm, and intestines on it yesterday. Unfortunately, her intestines seem to be located somewhere in her left leg.

I always vowed that when I had a husband and kids I would make sure we would sit around the table every meal......ha ha. I had to dig out the dining table from under all my Disney planning and scrapbooking stuff a couple of weeks ago so I could pretend to my Mum, when she visited, that we use it regularly. I don't think she was fooled, but DH and DS5 did a good job keeping up appearences. We have a kitchen island/breakfast bar thing that we use for meals..

We use ours any time we are all at home for a meal. Unfortunately with everyone growing up we don't all have compatible schedules very often. We definitely use it on Christmas eve when my entire family and some friends come over so the large table comes in handy. Otherwise we eat at the kitchen table or on trays in the livingroom. My kids joke that the diningroom table is really just for me to decorate for the seasons and holidays :rotfl: .

No, that my parent's place for the winter. It's 4 doors away from me. :teeth:

:teeth: I can definitely relate to this! We have a two car garage which can actually hold no cars.

Don't feel bad. Ours holds 4 cars and I still can't get 1 in there! LOL

my big expensive dining room table is used for folding laundry and my kitchen table is used for storing pots and pans....:)
I know we need to remedy this!

We have both a dining room and dining area in the kitchen (sort of it's own room). We use the DR when we have company. About once a month.

we converted our dining room into a second living room...
I have 3 roommates and 1 TV room wasn't enough.. :teeth:

No separate dining room here. We have a kitched table that seats 6 in the eat in kitchen, and both in this house and in our last house, the formal dining room was enclosed and used as a study. We eat dinner together at the table every night. I don't think I will ever have a formal dining room, it's not my style.

We must be so weird.

We always lived in houses that had big dining rooms that we never used! So when we moved into this house, we said "forget the dining room" and turned it into a computer room! We don't even have a dining room table, just a small kitchen table.

We eat in the living room every night. :rotfl:

But you know... that's the way I was brought up! We never ate at the kitchen table when I was growing up, it was always in the living room. I got DH used to it and now we all do it.

Every Sunday without fail, unless we are away on vacation or somewhere else having dinner. I always use my good china too....makes me feel very at home and right with the world. :goodvibes

I don't have a dining room table because I knew I'd never use it. When we had our house built I didn't put a hanging light fixture in the dining room for that reason. Someday I'd like the dining room to be a study, but right now it's mainly used as a computer room and play room. Luckily, we have a kitchen with enough room for a table that can hold two leaves and seat 12 people.

We have a similiar situation. We eat with a large table in our kitchen, which also can utilize leaves.

Our dining room is now a computer play room, but we are discussing changing that to an actual dining room.

We do eat every meal every day in the kitchen.

I forgot to mention that the dining room table does get some use. We eat at it for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day. Sometimes during the summer it gets used if there are a lot of people here.

The most fun anyone gets from using the table would be my husband. He hosts two or three Texas Hold 'Em Poker parties a year. :)
