How often do they change over It's Tough to Be a Bug?

Last time we were there they were showing previews of Coco. I didn't know they did this and was disappointed we didn't get to see the original show. At the time I think the app just listed it down for refurbishment and then open again. It never said it was something different. I heard they were showing a Wrinkle in Time previews somewhere, assume it's here now?

It hasn't been the bug show for years now...at least I don't think it has. When it's not being used for previews, it's closed.

I don't think it's closed. We saw It's Tough to Be a Bug when we were there last summer (2017).

I saw the regular show about a year ago, so at that time they were still switching back to regular between movie previews. Maybe if they don't have much time between two previews they don't bother and just close the theater. I haven't tried again since then because it was scarier than we expected and SO is afraid of spiders, lol. It does seem like it's showing something else most of the time though.

Huh. I never see it listed on the attractions list on the app. Is it under "shows"?

I've never looked before, but I see it on the attraction list on the app right now. It's showing a 5 minute wait.

They do occasionally switch it out to previews. I never know where it's listed. I just happen to see that when I am there and often I am already in the line before I find out that there is a preview instead of the regular show. I did see It's Tough to be a Bug twice last year. I also saw Cars 3 preview and another preview of which I cannot remember the name.

I kind of feel like they're using the Sunset Showcase Theater to preview upcoming live-action movies (BatB, PoTC, Summer of Heroes, Thor) and It's Tough to be a Bug to preview animated movies (Cars 3, Coco). It also seems to depend on whether they're previewing more than one movie at a time.

We saw it earlier this week and it had been so long that I forgot how much fun the effects were. It's a fun show. It never sacred my kids, but I can sure see how it would terrify some!

I am so glad you posted this thread. I was coming on to ask about the show. From the rumours I keep hearing they are going to be tearing down a bugs land to turn it into a Marvel area. Do they have an exact date yet as to when this is going to happen? My tradition for 10+ years when I go on a trip to Disneyland is to go straight to a bugs land to see the show. This trip I am going with my boyfriend and his daughter for the first time and I was hoping it was still going to be up and running then.

Since they're all about Pixar Pier right now, I don't see them doing it this year at least. But I've heard those rumors too. I'll be bummed for my little kids though, it's nice to have a place to take them in DCA that's more short kid friendly.

There's no date, and as far as I know it's still just a rumor. Given where GotG is, I think it's safe to assume that either Bugs Land or the Hollywood backlot area will become Marvel, but I don't think it's officially decided which it will be. Personally I think it makes more sense to get rid of the Hollywood area because there's just a lot of empty space over there and it seems like they're moving away from California theming.

There still isn’t an exact date or even a year announced/theorized yet as it is still just a rumor and MIGHT not even happen at all. It’s Tough to be a Bug is often switched out for movie previews throughout the year but when it is not showing a preview it is pretty much always open and still showing ITTBAB. The Sunset Showcase Theater (where they used to show Muppets 3D) is the main preview theater these days and when it is not showing a preview it just stays closed.
