How much would you pay for a pair of running shoes?

I need a new pair (adult) and am astonished at the prices. I am not a competitive runner, but like to use the treadmill at the gym on a regular basis. They would primarily be used for working out, not so much for going elsewhere. Do people really pay $85 and up?

I did pay $85 for a pair of Brooks running shoes. I normally never spend that much but it has been really worth it. I thought I got a deal too, the others were $125.

Yes, I pay about that for my Brooks shoes. I get them fitted at a running store (and I am a very casual jogger) However, I have never had any blisters or other "Foot" problems so IMHO it's worth it to have well fitting shoes.

I got a pair of New Balance at JC Penney's for $49.99 on sale. I like NB because I like the support in the shoes.

mine run about $125+ I have them custom fit because of my orthotics.

I got a pair of nike running shoes for work (I'm a cook, on my feet all day), they cost about $70, from jcpenny's, on sale. Worth every penny.

I've never spent that much on shoes in my entire life.

I'm all for budget shopping, but 2 things I will spend extra money for to get quality and shoes are 1 of them. I used to not spend the money. I mean I thought I was getting good shoes ($40 or $50), but in Jan I got fitted at a running store. My word, the extra $$ was so worth it. My heel spurs are gone. My feet feel 100Xs better. I was buying orthodics for my shoes and was about to start making doctor's appointments. It was so painful. Now, well.... It is remarkable.

Some things are worth the money.

I think that $$ for running shoes all depends on the person and their body.
Some people are able to get away with wearing les expensive shoes and not get feet, ankle, knee or hip problems.

If your a person prone to those issues, your best bet is to buy a better pair of running shoes.

Sometimes if you find a great pair of running shoes. I will watch online to see when online retailers have the shoe on sale or clearance, and you can save money and get a good shoe thats more affordable and still a good shoe.

But, when the shoe is no longer available, you have to find another new model, and then find it on line too.

(And if you are overweight, even just a few pounds, and you are a woman.. you have amuch higher risk of leg, hip, knee problems. Which is of course why I am out there jogging around... LOL!)

I usually spend between $80-$100 for a good pair of Reeboks which I use for running and Disney. It's one of the few things I don't "go cheap" on and will buy even if it's not on sale (although I do try my best to catch a sale, if I can).

I spend anywhere from $85 to $125 for my running shoes. Unfortunately the Nike Plus are over $100, so that's what I'll pay. Also like New Balance.

Wow...I guess I'm lucky to have New Balance factory stores near me! I can get good sneakers for $25. The ones I have on now are on "clearance" at an online store for $50, normally around $80. I got them at the factory store for $25. If you're ever in western/central Maine, the NB stores are in Oxford and Skowhegan.

I just paid $9 for a pair of Champion tennis shoes. I rarely wear sneakers so they work for me. I may eventually need to invest in a good pair if they don't provide enough support, I have started going to the gym.

My hubby and sons have wide feet, so we order their shoes from New Balance. They cost between 60 -80 bucks.

They recommended Ryka, which they said was made just for women's feet. I do have a bunion on one foot, and that is the problem - it all fits okay at the store but after some running starts to rub. Darn those '80's heels!

Do a search for a running store in your area, and I'm not talking Ladies Foot Locker or Dick's Sporting Goods. At a specialty store, the employees will have you walk for them, so they can see if you over or under pronate. They will also look at your current shoes to see the wear patterns on them. Most importantly though, they generally allow you to return the shoes (even after a few weeks) if they aren't right for you.

Like I said, some things are worth the money.

I buy NewBalance (always 600 or more series) on sale. Usually at Kohl's or JC Penney outlet.

I interviewed many moons ago at Lady Foot Locker. They offered me a job to manage a store. I KNOW NOTHING about sports etc... The training was "how to run a cash register.

I also tried those shoes. I don't know which "woman" they were made for, but it's not ME! LOL!


I agree with an earlier poster. Do a search for running stores. If you go in and everyone seems really thin and dressed like they could jog right out, you probably are in the right place. Don't panic, they get older women all the time. The one I use gives discounts for things like participants in the 3 day Breast Cancer walk so I know I am not the first 40 something out of shape woman they have met!

DH is a marathoner and goes through six pairs a year. He likes New Balance and keeps an eye for sales. He can usually find the style he likes in the $60 range that way.

yes! for running and training for marathons I will! I spent about $125 on my last pair and will be needing a new pair here pretty soon. I went to a running store and they were great! had me walk in them, etc. I tried so many pairs on and the owner was such a wealth of knowledge I wouldnt buy anywhere else after that customer service.
