My 1st DH and I bought a '66 Impala for $50!!! That was in '78 and yes it was a piece of you know what but it did get us from the Chicago area to Colorado with only all the lug nuts breaking on the front passenger side when trying to change that tire, in Nebraska. Gotta love old cars!! :teeth:

1997 Ford Taurus purchased in 2000 for $3000. My dad got really good deals on Philips company cars that were at the end of their employee term and it belonged to a co-worker/friend.

About $19,000 brand new in 1995. I didn’t really have much of a credit history, but I got a promotional financing deal by presenting my formal job offer. The credit manager complained that he didn’t make any commission (the whole dealer participation thing) but said it was his obligation to do it.

.....and what kind of car was it?? :) Just wondering as I paid $22,000 for a new Ford Fusion in 2013.

$16500.00 for a 1986 Mazda rx7, 2 seater stick shift, bright red, in 1997.Had to sell in in 1995 to buy a minivan for my dd (was planning on more kids quickly, by January 2003 had 4 more). I loved that car, bought it before I knew how to drive it.

Brand new, bright red 1974 Chevy Camaro. It was $3000 and I paid cash for it.

I bought a used 1988 Buick LeSabre in 1993 for $7000.

It sounds like a lot of money when I think about it now. But it was in great shape with low mileage.
I kept it for 9 years. It died in my garage the day we moved into our new house. Lol.

$500 1973 Ford LTD in 1984. Cleaned it up and sold it in 1985 for $800. It was a :boat:. My dad loved it-was very big and sturdy for a 15 year old new driver.

Free because my Ddad bought it for me - a '79 Pontiac Phoenix that I got in '85. The first new one I drove off the lot was an '88 Ford Tempo and it cost $8,800.00 fully loaded (I remember thinking that coincidence was neat). Those were the days! :drive:

Acura Integra GS-R. I got it less than list price (somewhere around $21,000) although it certainly wasn't cheap. I think a similarly spec'ed (aluminum wheels, moonroof, spoiler) Honda Civic at the time would have been around $13,000, and they were similar sized cars. I don't think Civics had an ABS option though. They weren't similar performance cars though. I knew I was paying a pretty steep premium for it.

A 2002 Isuzu Rodeo for $2500 in 2009 my grandma bought from my next door neighbor. My insurance company gave me $6,000 when I totaled it though. Then I got black 2008 Pontiac G5 with a pink pinstripe, much more my style.

I got a 1993 Buick Park Avenue for free as a hand-me-down from my Grandfather. It was 11 years old when I got it, but it could seat SIX people. Some people acted like I should have been embarrassed, but I loved that car.

What I saved in purchase price, I more than made up for paying for repairs in brakes, tires, exhaust, a gas tank replacement, etc.

I bought my second car, an '07 Chevy Cobalt for $12,000. It was in 2007.

Sounds like the same type of car my oldest birth person drove from NYC to Colorado.
He's still there;).

I think our first car was free, from my wife's brother. An 84 Ford Escort. Or was it an 86 Mercury Lynx? We had one and then the other. They looked identical. Either way, it was free.
