Hello fellow Canadians!
The last 2 years we've driven down to Florida, but in 2006 we're contemplating flying. My question is, how much should I expect to pay roundtrip for 2 from Detroit to Miami? Thanks in advance. My TA got me a price of $445 per person round trip, I thought it was pretty high so I told her to wait. She's having a fit. :badpc: Any help would be appreciated!! :confused3

It all depends if there are seat sales available at the time you can go. I booked a flight with Northwest Airlines next week to Orlando for $149 (Can) round-trip from detroit.

I heard that there is the $59.00 seat sale going out of detroit also. You have to times it by 2 for round trip and add taxes. I wouldn't pay more than $200.00 per person round trip. There is always deals going on. Especially out of Detroit.

I've checked the NWA page, no deals. :confused3 The price I had was with my TA. Where did you guys book from?
Kathy

I checked with expedia to see if there any deals, then I use NWA page to book it. The best rate I seen today is NWA for about $268 US return. You need to search around, also you may be able to purchase a low cost ticket from priceline by putting in a bid.

I rarely use a TA when shopping around for plane tickets, since you have to pay the TA an extra $40 to $50 bucks for the service. It you book online with the airline you typically get the lowest price around.

With the price of gas going up, you should expect to pay more for your flight!

We got our flights out of Detroit to Orlando for April 2006 for 226.00 canadian. It was a price I was willing to pay so we booked early! You could wait until closer to your date and try for seat sales then. :flower:

Hi There,

We travel to Orlando by air simply because of Spirit Airlines. They are a budget airline flying out of Detroit. They are fantastic. No accidents ever. They do not have movies or meals, but who cares. You can sign up to receive their Syber Specials each week. You simply will not believe their prices to Florida. For our third time running I am only paying $59.00 for each flight. For a family of 4 that is a gigantic saving. If you book into a hotel near the airport you can get free parking for the week you are down in Florida. The last Syber Special I saw was if you bought one ticket last week you got a free one to be used by November 2006. They are a life saver, financially speaking. :cool1:

Hi there Mr. Moodly,
My TA checked with Spirit and at that time , no deals. :confused3 Well, I'll check when I'm done here and let you know.
Thanks,
Kathy

Hi KG66,

You need to register for Syber Specials and then wait till Wednesday or Thursday and you will get an email listing the deals out of all their airports. You won't believe the deals. I bought my tickets at $59.00 when I saw them later at $54.00. They tempt you every week. Flights to Mexico for 99.00. They are a good airline.

With the Syber Specials you need a little bit of nerve and wait till 2 months out and watch each week and they will put in a deal. It may not be this week or next but it will come.

Mr. Moodly,
Thanks for the tips re: Spirit. I literally "fell asleep at the computer" waiting for the quote from Spirit last night, and never did get one. I did register with Syber Specials, so now I Wait. Thanks, and I'll keep you posted, no pun intended. :rotfl:

Hi Again,

Syber Specials posted this today, nothing to Orlando this week.
Market Tues/Wed Mon/Thu Fri-Sun

Cancun $89* $94* $104*
Fort Lauderdale $49* $69* $99*
Fort Myers $59* $69* $99*

Spirit is a great airline. They are a Miami-based airline, and fly out of the smaller Fort Lauderdale airport, about 20 miles north of Miami. You can often fly them from Detroit for $150 round-trip. Be patient, though. Usually, those fares show up about 4-5 months before your flight.
