How much time should I allow to go from DL to RSR fastpass and back?

On the mornings we start at Disneyland, I was planning on park-hopping to DCA just to get RSR fastpasses. How much time do you think I need to allow to get from say Splash Mountain area to the RSR fastpass turnstile? Will it take more than 30 minutes to get through DCA turnstyles and then back through DL if I run over sometime after 10 am (both parks opening at 9am)? I want to allow enough time and I'm assuming passes still run out about two hours after DCA opens. Thanks!

The answer is no longer as clear cut as it used to be...assuming RSR is running when DCA opens, most estimates say that RSR FP last between 90 and 120 minutes after park opening. I would say it'll take about 30 minutes to get from Splash to the RSR FP machine (allowing time for walking, getting into DCA, and then getting the FP). The "less clear" part is that if RSR is not running, they do not distribute FPs. So you might get there and then find out they are not distributing the FPs at that time.

I tried to Park hop to get FPs one morning. I headed over the DCA from DL from Space at about 10am or later assuming that the entry crowds had died down. There was a short wait but no more than a couple of minutes BUT the CM at the wicket said that I would not be able to get FPs for my party because their Hopper tickets hadn't been scanned into DCA yet. I did not think this was correct so I turned around and headed back to Space. And yes, I had all the PH tickets for my family. I asked the CM 'are you sure?' and she said yes.

When did this happen? I know that back in March, the CMs were telling folks that the tickets must have been used to enter either DL or DCA before they could be used to get a RSR FP. So at least in March you didn't have to enter DCA to get a RSR FP as long as you had already entered DL. I haven't tried it since November of 2012, but back then I know it worked. My party went into DL, I gathered up their tickets, and then I headed over to DCA to get the RSR FPs. I didn't have any problems getting a FP for them.

It was somewhere between the 15-20 May. We had already entered DL as a group and had our tickets scanned. Thanks to reading here I was pretty sure I could run over the DCA and grab some FPs and we had done this on a previous trip.

I asked the CM who scans the tickets before you enter the turnstiles (the person who scans and looks for your photo ) and she said that all parties have to enter DCA in order to collect FP. I thought she might be wrong which is why I asked if she was sure and she seemed quite adamant. In hindsight I should have just taken my chances and tried anyway but she didn't seem too keen on scanning my tickets and I wasn't sure if that would mean I couldn't use them to collect FPs anyway.

I'm going to chalk it up to a CM not being fully versed on how Hoppers and FPs work but you would think that people manning the turnstiles would be well versed in such things.

Speaking of, I asked a person at guest services just outside the Esplanade if the Matterhorn was open during MM and she didn't know. She said that was a good question lol. I just went back to the hotel and visited here :rotfl:

My plan was to send my DH to get RSR Fastpasses while the rest of us are in DL. He will be super upset if I send him for nothing. Is there anyone there now who can clear this up?

I'm an AP. It is my understanding that everyone has to go through the main gate of the park to get a fast pass. (ie: everyone has to be in DCA if you want to get a RSR fast pass.) I haven't tried it but that is what we've been told by several cast members.

Note: We were at DCA yesterday. RSR fast passes were still available around 9:30am but gone for the day by 11am.

I sent my husband as the runner for RSR FP on Tuesday, May 13. He left us in line at Autotopia at about 10:15, took our tickets (which had not been scanned at CA that day), and was back to meet us at space about 40 minutes later. No problems with the tickets.

Wow! It's a little more complicated than I realized so I am very grateful for the input! Cal-Pie, do you remember what your fastpass return time was? Am hoping for a later ride for our first time to experience the ride. Thanks again, everyone! I can't imagine going to Disneyland without all the info. I've gotten from this board (and I probably haven't even read half of what I need to!).
Three more days!

That's about right. I would allow a few extra minutes for Splash since it's so far away. I walk pretty quick when I'm unencumbered by kids and/or stroller. The fastest I think I've made one of these trips is 25 minutes. The longest part is the line for the FP. That's really the unknown.

I go there 30 minutes to 1 hour after DCA opening and I get a return time in the early afternoon (2 or 3pm).

Maybe things have changed. In March I tried getting FPs for BTMRR while my party was in CA and it wouldn't let me. We were using one day Park Hoppers.

Seems like they were somewhere in the 1:30-2:30 range:) It was a day when DCA opened at 10, so I think my husband picked them up about 1/2 hr after opening.

Curious if you had already visited DCA on a previous day with that ticket?

On our last visit in February I was the one designated to go from DL, where we had all started the day with an early morning) to DCA for RSR FPs.

As I got to the front of the line, I heard the CMs asking each person as they took the tickets to feed through the machine whether all the members of their party were in DCA.

Some said yes, and the CM would pass the tickets through and give them and the FPs that spit out of the machine to the guest.

Others said no, and the CMs wouldn't even put the tickets through the FP machine.

On my turn, I lied and said yes even though I was the only one (of a party of 9, including one with an AP) from my group to have entered DVC that morning.. The CM put the tickets into the FP machine and they spit out the FPs with no problem.

I have no clue whether they have updated the systems to check if the tickets are active in a particular park, but back them the CMs just seemed to be asking.

My husband did this exactly on May 9. Worked fine. No ones ticket hopper had been scanned at DCA that day but my husband's as he entered to get RSR FP. All tickets had been scanned at DL Because we had all entered that park that morning. Do know that the FP runner may (or our case, always was) be asked to show their. ID to use their ticket to enter any park, even if they already showed their ID earlier that day to enter the first park of the day. So don't run for FP without all the tickets for the party and your ID!

I am trying to get a handle on this new wrinkle of not distributing FP if RSR is down.

Is this only if the ride is down at park opening? (Until it's back up and running)

Or, do they stop FP distribution if the ride breaks down shortly after park opening? And if so, do they cut off the line, or send everyone in line away?

Thanks for sharing any experience!

All rides are like that. If the ride is currently down, they shutdown the FP machines. Once the ride comes back up, so do the machines. My guess is that they don't want people getting FP's for a ride that may not come back up that day.

I wonder that too. It sounds like all the tickets themselves need to have been checked in at DCA once before the ticket will generate a fastpass. And, if someone is an AP, I wonder if it just has to be the very first visit.
