How much time does your child spend on homework?

My 2nd grader has about 30-45 a night and 45 on the weekend (mostly reading)

My freshman is another story she is in all advanced and AP classes and no study hall so she has easily 3-5 hrs a night and 4-6 hrs on weekends unless a project, paper or tests in a few things then it can be 20 or more hours. From 5th on she always had at least 2 hrs a night.

3rd grader- hour and a half-- I believe the standard (as mentioned before) is supposed to be 10 minutes for each grade level but my sons school has always given him more than that.

My DD is in 7th grade and she gets about 30 minutes a night total.

6th grader- 1-2 hours per night
9th grader- none, unless it a special project like the toothpick tower he just built that took forever!

DD - sophomore in 5 honors classes about 3 hours on weeknights and 6 or more on weekends. She is very efficient. No IM'ing , etc while she's working. It's really that much. She's in marching band which is 3 hours each night after school. She just wants to get the HW done so she can sleep.

DS - 8th grade -- almost none because they have an activity period which is basically a study hall unless they have band scheduled that day. But, he does have a science fair project and a history day project that he has to do all at home. He seems to work about an hour a week on each. They aren't due till Jan and Feb.

My daughter's in 6th grade. It varies, anywhere from 0 to 3 or 4 hours. But my daughter isn't great at focusing on homework, I really think that it usually takes longer then it has too.

Thank you for your replies.

I was curious because I'm the 6th grade Math teacher (for the semester) and personally I don't believe in a lot of homework. Usually the only Math homework my classes have is classwork not completed or a couple of times a week I give them just enough problems to do at home to see if they learned a concept just taught by me that day. :teacher:
