How much time do you give yourself in the morning to get ready?

I have to leave the house by 7:15 am and get up at 6:00 am. That gives me time to get coffee, shower, make-up, clothes ironed, dressed and make my lunch, along with watching the news as I get ready.

Not many make lunches the night before. We always make ours the night before.

I am not a morning person so I sleep as long as I can, then get ready for work. I think it takes about 30-40 minutes from up to out the door, including shower, make up, and getting dressed. I usually don't blow dry my hair. It takes about an hour to get to work so it is dry by the time I get there.

About an hour, but I do "cheat" and sometimes get a shower at night, so that cuts down on my morning prep time. I've also perfected my hair and makeup application--people are amazed that I can straighten my hair and put on a full face in only about 30 minutes.

I only *need* about 20 minutes to get ready in the morning. 45 if I didn't shower the night before for some reason.

But, I'm a morning person. So I usually enjoy taking a lot more time than I require. My DH and I usually spend about 60-90 minutes on the couch enjoying a few cups of coffee in the morning before we get dressed and leave.

I'm at work by 7:30 so I'm up around 5:45. I take about 45 minutes to shower, do my hair and makeup, get lunch together and grab a cup of coffee, then out the door for my 25 min commute (sometimes as long as 40 min). I wash my hair every day and have to blow dry it as it's got zero body and shape otherwise. I could go into work later, but that would just mean having to stay later. I'm off work at 4 and home by 4:45.

It never takes me more than 45 minutes to get out the door.

This thread reminds me of the one about people getting ready to go to the parks when at WDW and there were a couple of doozies with people who took hours to get ready. Not sure why you'd spend so much time to just go and sweat :-)

DH gets up at 5, heads out at 530 to walk 6 miles so he gets back about the time I'm walking out the door. It should take him less than 1/2 hour to get ready, but honestly, he takes longer than I do. He takes his time and gets to work around 830 and works til 430 or 5.

Up at 5, leave by 5:45. Work starts at 6:30, so with a 30 minute commute, that gives me 15 minutes to get settled.

That includes, getting me ready for work, feeding the dogs, getting breakfast together for me & the kids, and my morning devotional.

My latest job has me leaving the house around 8:45pm. While others start earlier in the office, I take the later shift.
  • got tired of being asked to work late.... it became second nature to start late in order to work late.
  • by the time I hit the roads..... congestion starts to thin out as parents have dropped off the kids at school.
  • by starting a few hours late..... I save gas money in not defrosting my car on winter mornings.
  • by going home after 6:30pm.... traffic congestion thins out on the return trip home.... again saving me gas. I also get quiet time to finish things with less disturbances from co-workers.
  • less road congestion.... means less stress, less road rage, and less money wasted on gas

I have to be at work at 6:45, I don't have a choice. But I do typically avoid traffic. I don't defrost since I park in the garage anyway. I have kids, so getting home after 6:30 would be difficult.

I actually do prefer going in ahead of traffic and leaving by 2pm. But getting up is the hard part!

LOL, never thought about people actually making their lunch in the morning. I've always fixed my lunch, and taken my shower before bed. Why get up early to fix lunch and shower when I can do it in the evening when I am awake? Started doing that in college when I had 8 am class, set my alarm for 7:50 am, in class at 8.
Actually, the biggest part of my lunch these days are a couple of hard boiled eggs, I cook and shell those on Sunday night, so my Friday lunch was made on Sunday. Although once in a while I buy the peeled hard boiled eggs in the store.
My wife used to be a morning lunch fixer and showerer. Her allergist told her to show at night so she isn't sleeping in all that pollen, and the fixing lunch the night before just followed suit.

I meal prep for myself but I pack DD's lunch in the morning. I like sandwiches to be fresh. I feel like the bread gets hard if it's in the fridge overnight.

And I must shower in the morning. Me not showering in the morning is never going to happen. Especially since I work out in the morning. Even on rest days I shower in the morning.

Up at 6:10, out the door at 7:25, at work by 7:45/7:50. I am a morning showerer. My hair won't curl if it's not freshly washed. Plus I am a 51 year old female, so sometimes night time can get a little hot and sweaty.

I love how precise some of these answers are!

I'm generally one of those "two hour" people (though not at Disney!) I'm not spending all that time getting myself ready, though. I pack lunch for DH, make breakfast for DS, have a leisurely cup of coffee, etc. I'm a definite morning person - it's much easier for me to get up early than to stay up late, and I hate to be rushed in the morning. I find I have a much better day if I have a few minutes to chill before I have to start my day.

It seems that a lot of us who need more time in the morning are parents who need that time to get the kids moving.

I don't work anymore, but I feel like I have a part time job of hospital appointments. When I have to go anywhere, I try and allow an hour to get ready. A big chunk of that time is walking the dog, and then I have to bring him up to stay at my parents' house. He cannot stay home with my gram, because she could hurt him, or let him out... It probably takes me a half hour to shower, dress and dry my hair quickly. I don't wear makeup or anything.
OT - I like your new avatar - all spiffed up for Christmas! :wave2:

My 59 DW found a solution for the last item. She keeps the house at 60 degrees at night year round. I have to cuddle up with her to stay warm. So I THINK she keeps it cold to sleep better, or after 34 years of marriage, she FINALLY figured out how to get me to cuddle up when we sleep.

When I worked, my job started at 8 and my alarm was set to go off at 5.30. I needed a good half hour to wake up before I went for my shower. Then, an hour for my hair to dry and then quickly flatten it and get dressed to leave the house at about 7.30 to catch the bus.

Sure it does :love2:

I'm in awe of so many early risers and those who manage to work out so early.

I get up at 6:00 to be out the door at 7:15 for my 5 minute commute. About an hour of that is a 10 minute daily devotional and then drinking coffee with DH while catching up on news and then 15 minutes getting ready. I workout after work so I shower in the evening. I iron when I do laundry so clothes are ready to go in the closet.

I eat breakfast at work.
