Hey there,

I'm trying to work out how much money I should save for myself and my wife to take a 7 day trip to wdw. We will be staying on site (value resort) w/ deluxe dining package and using Disney transportation to get around. How much spending cash do you think we will need while in the parks? Neither of us drink alcoholic beverages so this is not a consideration.

Having never been, I guess, I'm just wondering what is enough money for us to go, have fun and not feel like we are "on a budget". $1000 - $1500 is the amount I"m bandying about in my head, is this too much? Not enough?

if this is "more than enough", what suggestions do you have to help us blow our budget and have a great time? Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions.

EDIT: I feel I should clarify, we have no children and so will not be needing to purchase endless souvenirs. Just a couple for ourselves! :)

Honestly...even with my family of 4... we don't need more than $600 when we have the dining plan.
Wait...that was before when tip was included.

Other than spending money for souveniers.... your main expense will be tax and tips on the meals.

Everyone's budget is going to be different. Ask yourself this- How much do you like "stuff"? Do you like to shop and buy things? Are you buying things to bring home for others? A childs t-shirt begins around 30.00 I think and an adult hoodie begins around 55.00. My family of 4 only spends around 200.00. We limit the number of purchases and kind of have an idea of what we might want before we go. IMHO, your pocket money seems like more than enough. If I had the money I would rather buy an experience like Wishes cruise or special animal safari. For us, the experience is most important, not the stuff. Have an awesome trip!

If you have never been you may want more souvenirs. We aren't really souvenir people and my boys would rather spend $50 each at the Lego store, so we only take about $150.

My DH & I just went to WDW in August for the 1st time for a week and we had a budget $100 per day. Some days we spent less and other days we spent more. At the end of the week we came out ahead. It just depends on what might catch your eye when you're there! Have fun!!!!!:thumbsup2

Thanks for the great replies so far. We both actually love getting Disney themed stuffed animals and clothing items. No need to feel shame when you're at WDW! We regularly visit our local disney store to check out the offerings. It sounds like 1k+ credit card will be sufficient for our needs then. THanks for all the help! If you have suggestions on how to use up our budgeted fun, feel free to post em!

I would suggest spending some of that money on cabs!

With DxDDP and a value resort, I'm guessing you might have a few meals at other resorts. Those transfers can be a bit of a headache.

If I had $1,000 as spending money for a week, I would definitely be treating myself to some $20 cab rides to eliminate the hassle of a few bus transfers.

For what it's worth, I think $1,000 for a week is ample. I could see it breaking down like this:

$300 - DDP tips
$100 - cabs
$100 - misc pocket money (snacks at airport, extra bottled water if it's hot, housekeeping and bell services tips)
$300 - souvenirs
$200 - fun special experiences (Why not rent water mice? Or see La Nouba? Or treat her to a spa pedicure? Ride the Characters in Flight balloon?)
