How much should we worry about the feelings of other posters? Inspired by almacdonald

Personally, I think that we should be respectful and not say and do anything to knowingly hurt others. However, if we are offering support I think person should accept the support with the intent that it was given. I try not to say something that I know is going to personally hurt someone. Yes, I joke around, but try to use the smilies to show that I am joking.

So should we tiptoe on eggshells afraid to say anything or post any picture? Should we say or post any or everything? Or is there a happy medium?

I agree. Trouble is you never quite know how someone will recieve your post. I've seen too many times someone take offense to someones post and I sit here trying to figure out how you would take offense to that.

I agree. Trouble is you never quite know how someone will recieve your post. I've seen too many times someone take offense to someones post and I sit here trying to figure out how you would take offense to that.

In response to the Spring has Sprung thread, I think that many people have been very sincere in their offers of condolences, sympathies, well wishes, etc. I know sometimes that maybe it does smart a bit to see a picture of a pet after you have lost yours, or a picture of a family or baby if you want one and have miscarried/can't have one.

Maybe it hurts to see married people if you are divorcing. Or people taking another trip to WDW if you are poor or going bankrupt.

But honestly, that is life. You'll see those things in RL, too! No one is TRYING to hurt people's feelings! I certainly never would, but I also am not going to pretend that I don't have a husband or pets, and God forbid I should lose them, I certainly wouldn't want anyone else to pretend like they don't have them either.

Personally, I take a little happiness in other people's happiness, even if my situation isn't great.

And a person does have to look at the person's intent. It honestly has NEVER occured to me that it might hurt someone to see a picture of my kitten soon after losing their pet. I know that I posted to PAW when her cat was sick and died and I would be so bothered if I found out that my posting upset her (or someone else, just using her as an example). Now that I know, I'll see if there is a way to turn it off in one post and I will consider doing so, but I'm not turning it off for everyone because it could offend someone.

I think we should all go by the Golden Rule here: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

It's as simple as that IMO.

I just don't think that people generally put pics in their siggy to upset people. Well there are those that do it too friends but thats a different story.

But for the record the most offecsive pic anyone can do is post a Apolo/dorkboy pic.

And I think intent IS the key!!! You obviously just posted because you know what it's like to love a pet, and felt for her!!!

It wouldn't occur to me either. I mean, it's certainly something I will be aware of now. But then again, it wasn't like you went on there and said, "Hey, sorry your pet died, BUT MINES DOING GREAT!!!"

You didn't do that... right?

I try and keep it to the am I going to get banned or be in the doghouse minimum and on top of that be relatively nice on top.. There have been times though when I have been so tempted to just let one rip.

I don't post regularly... and you hit the nail on the head with the reason. Sometimes it seems like no matter who the poster and what they say or how they say it..... someone is going to take it the wrong way and get upset.

IMO people need to toughen up a bit and not be offended by every little thing.
