How much luck have you had getting a room upgrade at a Disney resort (specifically PO

We got upgraded at BC from woods view to water view (at least I think it was a water view, it overlooked the volleyball court, but you could clearly see across Cresent Lake).

We were with my parents and requested adjoining rooms with full balconies.

They gave us adjoing rooms but with smaller balconies and a water view. Overall, we were pleased not only for the view but the location within the resort was fantastic (on the Epoct side but not too far from the lobby).

I think requesting full balconies may have helped us get upgraded (i.e., they gave us a water view in exchange for not getting a full balcony).

It may have been a garden view. We had a room that overlooked that volleyball court, if you looked dead on straight out from our balcony you would just see the other side of BC building but if we looked to the right, we could see the Lake and Boardwalk! But because it wasnt a straight view of the water I think it is classified as GV? Unless of course you were in the middle section that did have a straight on view, then yes, it would be water view.pixiedust:

Thanks to all of you for your input. I have gone ahead and changed my booking to a Garden view room that will cost $101. more. But, it seemed like from what most of you wrote, upgrades at this resort were not very likely. Since 3 of the 5 rooms I found to fit our bill are garden view, I felt that while money is tight, I better do it.

I also wanted to explain to you all who think I am crazy that it is not about the view. I agree, with no balconies and with so little time spent in the room, room placement and/or view might not be very important. However, for us, we sleep in for our 9 night vacation. We stumble into the parks about 10:30 after a good night sleep but stay to the bitter end. It is what works for us. Therefore, having a quiet room is paramount (as quiet as it can be at Disney that is). I have found over the years that what fits the bill for quiet room is one on the top floor, corner. Additionally, it means not near another building, not near stairs or elevator, and against the logical traffic pattern of the exiting of the building. We knew the rooms that fit the bill in the values but since this is our first time at POFQ with so many upgrade options, I didn't know what to do. I truly appreciate your advice. I am hoping that with paying the extra $100 that they will consider the room location requests (as I am not asking for a free upgrade necessarily). I know, there are no guarantees but it's worth a try for a perfect and somewhat restful vacation (despite the fact we are on the go the whole time!). :)

On my room request, I'd just ask for a quiet location, so they know what you are looking for.
But, we had a GV room in Bldg 4, top floor corner room not far from stairs, looking straight across to food court, and never heard a sound!!! It was very quiet.
I think the quiet location is more about your neighbours then where your room is! We were strolling along the river coming back from POR dinner, and a very loud group of adults were making their way back to their room in the far building at the end of pofq yelling back and forth loudly to each other with no regard for any family who may be sleeping :(

We did 10 days at pofq in nov 2012. We ended up checking in a day early due to Hurricane Sandy...we had no power so just drove down early. The first night they had no kings available so they put is in a queen room and said to recheck in the next morning for the 10 day ressie.

First off our king was a free upgrade when we booked. We told them it was our 10th anniv and they just gave us the king bed room :confused3

Anyway, when we went to checkin for the 10 day reserved portion they put us in building 7 with our booked standard view king bed. I asked if they had anything closer to the bus stop. The desk cm called housekeeping to see if we could be reassigned. We were, to a pool view room in building 1 i think...right next to the river. :cool1:

Not sure :confused3 why or how either happened but they did.

I paid for std room first time, got bldg 3 overlooking parking lot. I paid for garden room next time, got building 5 in the section nearest the river but overlooking the interior garden area. I liked the location of bldg 3 better.

This time I just asked for a standard room again in building 3 or 4.
