We're trying to decide whether to DDP or not on our next trip. What is the tax for meals at WDW? Is it on everything or just drinks? We don't have tax on food here, and I'm trying to see how much I should really budget for this.

The Tax rate is 7%
Not correct.

The basic Sales Tax rate in Florida is 6.0% and is on most goods and services. The counties have an option, by vote of their residents, to add a surtax of 0.25%, 0.5%, 1.0% or 1.5% to the state rate.

Orange County, which is most of WDW has a surtax of 0.5%, so purchases (including meals) are taxed at 6.5%.

Osceola County, which has the All-Stars Resorts and Wide World of Sports in it, has a 1.0% surtax so purchases at those locations are subject to a 7.0% tax.

In addition, counties are allowed to have a tax on transient lodging. In both Orange and Osceola Counties it is 6.0%, so all lodging except the All Stars is 12.5% while the All Stars, in Osceola County, is 13.0%.

Sorry Mike (CPA Retired) Whatever that is.

I got my information from here;http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1497854

If you're interested, I have a spreadsheet that you can put in the menu prices and it will figure up the total of the meal (including tax and tip). I think I have it to figure tax at 6.5%

email me at hddanis@msn.com if you want it.

You may apologize, and I'm sure it'll be accepted :teeth: In the meantime: (CPA retired) means the poster has retired from a career as a Certified Public Accountant.

Given the detail in Chesire's response, I tend to think that information is the MOST accurate available.

I'm afraid I would not know USA work abbreviations.

Okay, I know we're going :offtopic: but - what would the equivalent be in England?

There are three types of qualification but the oldest and most respected is issued by the Institute of Chartered Accountants and it would be and ACA meaning an Associate of the Intitute of Accountants

In addition to being the equivilant of a Chartered Accountant, I do eBay Sales and have a Florida Sales Tax License. In several of the nearby counties to WDW (including mine) the rate is 7%, but in almost all of WDW it is 6.5%.

Ok you have established your credentials and pointed out that the information I was given by Kevin off the podcasts was 0.5%out.

I think Mike is correct, tax is 6.5%. The added tip is 18%. So you want to add 24.5% to all table service meals.

The general consensus is that if you eat one table service meal a day, the DDP plan is worth it.

Adult DDP cost: $39
Subtract Snack: $3 (popcorn, ice cream, etc)
Subtract Counter Service: $12 (average CS meal with dessert)
$24 Remaining for Table Service meal
Divide remainder by tax & tip to get base amount for table service meal:
$24/1.245 = $19.25

So ... if you spend a minimum of $19.25 before tax and tip, or $24 after tax and tip you will break even. It's pretty easy :) to do, take a look at my table I put together about WDW Restaurant prices. I put it together last year and updated it in April of this year:

oh, I forgot. I took a look at our receipts from our last trip in Nov. (yes, I do keep all receipts for a year!) and the tax was indeed 6.5%
