Hi,
I hope you all don't think I am rude for asking, but I was wondering how much you all usually spend on making a scrapbook.

Consider you are scrapping a 7 day trip to WDW. How much do you think you have invested in your book including.....
The scrapbook
Picture developing, (if you don't print them at home, actually even if you print them at home, I'm sure it cost you something..ie phot paper..)
embelishments.

I am having such a hard time finishing my scrapbook and for the amount of time and $ it is taking, I am considering going another route for the rest of my pictures.

Okay, I did a scrapbook for my sister last year. She wanted to pay me to do it. She bought the book at Disney ($25) which had some CS. I kept track of just about everything except scraps. I allotted, I think $5 for misc alphabets used (instead of charging for a whole pack of metal or sticker letters). I developed all her photos... anyway, it totalled around $90... so add the book and it's $115.

BTW: This message will self destruct after opening to obliterate any and all evidence that I spend this kind of money!!

It's OK Diane, your secrets safe with me.
(I won't tell anyone how much you spend) ;)

I'm more of a "simple" scrapper and I figured a basic book costs about 50 each (Binders 6 on sale, Plastic 7 for 200 etc)

I figure I spend anywhere from 10-40 a month on stuff :)

:earseek: What a loaded question :earseek:

I prefer NOT to calculate the damage. Because the way I look at it is....

Scrap supplies, $100 +
Peaceful scraptime , creativity & smiles and most of all... The beautiful finished heirloom product.... PRICELESS!!!!!

In this time of High Stress living, disconnected living, kids running to all different activities... Scapping my pictures reminds me that we do "Stop and smell the roses" even though it doesn't always feel like it. At times with my daughter I feel like I've "missed a moment" (she'll be 2 in May) Always so busy running, did I notice the moment? Then when I scrap the pictures I most certainly LIVED the moment. Photos are my proof. In ten years, without the words (journaling) it will just be a picture. And my daughter nor my sons will realize the abundant love I felt for them all their lives, especially during some moments.

God what a load of mush! I'm such a bleeding heart.
If you want to spend less, don't do a whole "Themed" album. Just an album of Friends, family, laughter & Moments worth recording :wave2:

Im with her on the priceless thing...

I couldn't even calculate what it cost per album...
I think it depends on if you buy the expensive sticker packs and embellishment or make your own paper piercings...
If you use film and feel you MUST scrap each and every picture...like my last trip
or Digital and just take your favorites to make the album (this trip thats what I am doing!)

If you have a sizzix to punch all your titles etc, or if you have to buy all coordinating letter stickers...

I would say anywhere from $75 to $300 depending on all that...

Em, Are you saying $50 for just the book, or the whole finished product?

Well... I am working simultanteously on a "life" book for DD and one for DS, on top of the fact that I do them each a book for big things like WDW trips... so my scrapping budget is high. At one point last year, when I was trying to get household spending under control to save for DL this summer, I had limited myself to $20 for scrapping supplies... well.... I don't think that I have stuck to that a single month!! In March I spent $63 at a CM party.... and I know that is not a lot, but that doesn't include SEVERAL visits to Michaels and AC Moore!

But I look at the money I spend on scrapping like Tinkerkat does.... it is my way of creating lasting memories and a family history for my kids and for the future. And I don't have any other expensive habits, so I try not to feel guilty about it. I spend less than anyone else I know on myself... and that includes men. I see the hairdresser about once a year, I use the cheapest cosmetics and beauty products (Covergirl, Suave, storebrands), I probably spend under $200/year on clothes, shoes, etc for myself (well.... I spent a bit more than that this fall because I started back working as a substitute teacher).... BUT you get my point. In 10 years who will care if I have a designer pocketbook in 2005??!! But my scrapbooks will still be here and will still be creating happiness for my family!.................P

Good grief, if I knew tha answer to that I would probably pass out. I don't think that is something I would ever want to know. I agree with PattyT, its not something you can ( or maybe a better word would be shouldn't ) put a price on. That's like really adding up how much we spend when we go to Disney. :guilty:

I tried to keep track of one of my albums to accumulate how much it actually cost and when I got to $200 :earseek: ....I decided....PRICELESS!!!! :goodvibes

I do use CM albums that start at $36.

Wow! What an interesting thread. When I went to the CK Convention in Nashville a few weeks ago, I totaled up my purchases and w/the admission fee and lunch ($6 for a BBQ sandwich and nothing else!) I spent $73 and change. BUT, alot of what I bought is for work and I can count that off on taxes. My plan is after I finish this Disney album, I'm going to scrap my pictures from my trip to Cancun, the trip to Puerto Rico and then take all the pictures I've taken as well as the other girls in the office and make a big Crusie album w/all ports of call. Then when clients come in and are interested in a certain destination, we can have it ready for them. The owner has also bought a new program where she is doing a scrapbook online. This way we can service our customers via computer as well as going to their homes and have actual albums for them to look at.

For my own personal use, I'd hate to see what I've spent on this Disney album! I'm still living in the 80s and using 35mm. I took 19 rolls of pictures at 24 on each roll and for the most part have used all pictures. Do the math........nope.....don't think I have the nerve to!! Ever heard the old saying "What I don't know won't hurt me?!"
It's our Girl's Secret right?!?!

Have a great day!!

I just did a 70th birthday album for a friend. She provided the album (spiral bound from a museum shop) and a set of bronze photo corners. She didn't want me to use her original pictures so I did a lot of copying, but all at buy one get one free. I kept track of everything I spent, thinking I would give her the gift of my labor but get reimbursed for what I spent. I spent $125. and change, and between 40 and 50 hours of time on a 9x11 inch -20 side book.

My personal scrapbooks are 12 x 12 pages in protectors. I use more than 20 sides per book, with an average of let's say 3 photos&2 sheets of cardstock, plus some assortment of eyelets, stickers, fibers and other embellishments per page. I would say $125 would probably be a minimum.

I should not have opened this thread...What a scary thought as to how much I spend on a book......
But I got along the lines with everyone else, the end result is priceless, the time I spend working on my books is relaxing and theraputic.
I have found in the beginning I was purchasing everything I saw and wanted so my monthly spending was scary!
But now I still go on my paper splurges...(I can't see that changing) But I am much pickier.
I make 2 teacher books at the end of the year. SOme times we collect money sometimes not....but the book cost about $20 to start then at least $25 for materials. I usually have codes or coupons for the prints so I haven't put any money out for that....

I have made some simple one's for about $10 while more extravagant and artistic one's, especially altered book style one's, cost from $50 and more.

It depends, but I prefer to scrap frugally. :)

I am just getting started in scrapbooking (thanks to this forum) so far I spent about $100 buying supplies from AC Moore and Michaels. I think starting up is the biggest investment, and a little overwhelming :goodvibes
Being a newbie, I want to buy everything! I try to restrain myself, but sometimes my evil spending side wins over :rotfl2:

Don't let it scare you if you are just starting out catch stuff on sale at Michaels and different craft stores, since all my kids are grown I probablly spend more than I should, but rememeber you will have the scrapbooks to pass on to your kids and down the line memories are not replaceable, so if you can't do much right now get a sticky note and jot down the details so you can scrapbook it when can afford it. I have gone back and I am getting pictures from all my realatives and making copies and doing books from when my cousins and I were kids and luckly my aunts wrote on the pictures. Just take your time buy a little at a time when it is on sale and you will get it built up. Some scrapbook stores even have garage sales. Just have fun, life is to short.
::MickeyMo :earsboy: :wave2:

I'm new at this too and am buying a lot of stuff - it's just so hard to resist! Who knew paper could be so CUTE! Anyway, I'm not going to worry about the money - it's a worthwhile investment and it's my hobby - I don't really spend on anything else.

I built my target shelves this weekend and organized all my stuff - I think I could open my own store!!! I need to stop shopping and start scrapping!

Oh geez....this sounds like a Master Card commercial, lol!

One album- $36 (CM brand)
Extra pages and protectors- at least $ 27 if not $47 (depends if I need to buy 1 or 2 extra sets of pages)
Photo printing- $40-50 (again, depending on pics...when I went before I had 14 or 15 rolls of film and it was $80- now I have a digital, so I don't print EVERYTHING)
Papers, adhesive, stickers, etc- probably another $40 (but I would be using a lot of what I had on hand too...)
= $150 minimum

What the album will mean to me and my family- priceless! :goodvibes

And I want to add that I consider my Disney albums my favorite souvenir of the trip- I do figure in photo printing as a big "souvenir" when I budget for trips, if that makes sense. I don't buy a ton of stuff on my Disney trips, because my pictures are the main thing I go back and look at and/or use.

Plus, with all my WDW swap stuff from last year, who needs to buy new supplies for the next trip!!!!! ;) :p
