Maybe I'm just being nosy, but I'm trying to do better at budgeting/saving this year. Also, seems when I meet my friends for lunch, everyone always using their debit card. I was wondering if maybe people just don't carry as much cash anymore?

I hardly ever have cash on me, just a check book and debit card!

When I started college, I was pretty nervous about walking around with cash. So I never had it. I basically would go get cash if I knew I was going somewhere and needed it, otherwise I relied on my debit card. By my senior year, even fast food places were taking debit, so the only thing I really needed cash for was the occasional soda from a machine. I have found that I am more likely to spend cash and I think a little more about what I spend on a card. Cash just seems more disposable to me, for whatever reason.

I do think my age plays a part in this though. I rarely have ANY cash, and this scares my parents/grandparents to death. DH doesn't carry cash often either. We're in our early 20s and we have an inherent trust in the banking system and in our cell phones, etc. so we don't feel like emergencies require cash like my family does.

same here. cash is way to easy to spend. takes a little more time and effort to write out a check, and my bank charges for some places with the debit card so I am limited as to where I can use it.

That depends on where I'm planning to go for the day. Sometimes $50 if local, but more if I'm traveling off Cape, usually a couple of hundred. I've been caught short a few times, thank goodness for debit cards!

Usually 150 - 200. When I go to the Instant Teller I always get $200 out. Do not usually pay much with cash, but we spend most of our nights at the arena and the food booth does not take debit!

I always use my debit card or a check. I never have cash on me and the sad thing is I work at a bank but I'm too busy w/ work to remember to get cash before the tellers leave.

I rarely ever have any cash. If I do it is only some quarters or a couple of dollars.

I'd be lucky to have a dollar in my purse. Usually just some change. I use credit card every where.

I'm not really a cash carrying person unless I'm on a cruise in port somewhere and I need the cash to haggle with.

I am the type of person that will charge less than a dollar at Kinko's for a copy. I never have cash. My checkcard or checkbook is much easier, and I can keep track of it .

I hardly have any cash. I write checks for everything. If I have cash, I tend to spend it on stupid stuff. I think of my purchases a lot harder when I have to write a check.

I always have some cash for emergencies. I would never carry my check book. I don't find myself using the cash just because it is in my wallet. I will never pay with a debit card but a credit card. A DC error is money from my account a CC error is money from the CC companies account.

I do not carry much cash - if any at all. I use my debit card or a check for mostly everything.

It depends what time of the month it is. On the 15th of every month I take out 180 dollars to last me for groocies and entertainment for a month. I normally go to the grocery store twice a month. So sometimes I'll have the 180 and sometimes I'll have 20 depending on the time of the month. I always use cash. All of my extra money is wrapping up in high interest savings accounts so I can't spend any extra. If there is an emergency I use my credit card and will draw out the money out of my savings to pay it. I always have some extra money in my checking account that I can use my debit card with just in case but not much.

It depends....I start out with $100 (on payday ~ Friday) and I'm lucky to have anything left by Wednesday or Thursday.
