How much can a 5yr old handle in one day

personally, I think a lot depends on when you go..ours did fine at that age but it wasn't busy and the parks closed earlier..I wouldn't try keeping them up till 11 every night like during the busy times plus we aren't wading through crowds and standing in long lines which can be wearing

also a lot depends on the child. ours have always been "go getters" and not easily tired and used to hiking . we have never once found it necessary or desirable to leave the parks mid day but that's probably cause we go in off season. we never run from ride to ride either but take our time, sit down if we want for a snack or what ever and always sit down for lunch so we rest and refuel.

I just checked and it looks to me like the parks close at 7:30 or earlier(except epcot) if your trip is in a few days so I do not think it will be possible for you to eat dinner then go back unless you eat at 3pm! even taking 3-4hrs( by the time you leave, get to your hotel, rest or what ever, get back) out at mid day will be a waste imo. if the 5 year old gets tired , i'd leave the park earlier. by the time you run back and forth you have wasted way to much time when they close early. unless you are going to be there for the parade and fireworks, if you or she are tired, leave for the day. there is a huge difference going off season and during the busy times. you can get a lot done in a short time without hurrying or killing your self off season. I would however get there as early as possible.

My son is only 4 years old and he does a FULL day - early morning until the parks close. but then again he has been doing WDW since he was 6 months old and goes to a local amusement park (Hershey) 30-40 times during the Summer.

You have to know your child and his schedule. Does he need a nap? Does he tire fast? Only you can be the judge on how much he can do. Every child is different.

I am sure you will get tons of advice, but use your intuition and knowledge of being a parent. When he seems tired go back for a break.

Have a great time. Remember to let him set the pace as well, you will find LOTS of magic from a child that ADULTS do not see.
