How many Starwood pts for upgrade at Dolphin?

Hello all! Just wondering if anyone knows how many Starwood pts. it "costs" to upgrade a std. room at the Dolphin? The website says "as few as 1,000" but doesn't say if thats per night or how many it actually is?? Also, should I do that online or wait until I get there? I'd appreciate hearing about anyone's experiences with this. Thanks!

When I called Starwood recently, they said you can do different kinds of upgrades - 1,000 per night takes you up one category and 1,500 per night takes you up two categories. If you call the Swan or Dolphin directly, they can tell you exactly what rooms are in each category. It has to do with views, balconies, etc. I was also told that you must call the hotel directly five days in advance of your arrival and that you cannot make these arrangements any earlier than that.
