And how many do you think the average American eats in a year?

I will post the number of pounds the average American eats in a later post. But I will say that it is probably a lot higher than you think.

Based on the number of recipes they are in and the fact we go through a couple of onions every week at home for the two of us. They are in tons of dishes at restaurants, plus we add them to sandwiches and salads and we grill a lot of red onions in the summer. I would guess I eat at least 25 pounds of onions a year.

None here... I mean I use a smidge of onion powder or dehyrated onion in my recipes, but if it is raw onion I cannot touch it. So I eat pretty much no pounds in a year. I would say maybe 1/4 pound if I am lucky at all.

No clue what the average person eats. I couldn't even begin to guess.

Every two weeks I buy a pound of onions for my family and sometimes two pounds... so you could do the math of 26 pounds- rounded up to 30 for good measure... divided by the 6 members of the family and you'd get 5 pounds... of course my youngest doesn't eat as much as the others so you could probably divide by 5 and get 6 pounds a year and then probably add a few pounds for the onions consumed that I don't directly purchase...

so I would say between 6-10 pounds

I probably do closer to 50 pounds of onions. For tonight alone, I am having 4 large sauteed onions for dinner. Sometimes I make fried mushroom and onion sandwiches.

I am offset by my wife who can only eat cooked onions... she probably eats 8 - 10 pounds a year.

my family of 4: about 60 lb per year (this does not include scallions). So I guess, for me personally, it's over 20 lbs.

None, zilch, nada - hate the blasted things - I will pick them out if I see them and if I can taste them, forget it - yuck!

OK, according to the website I visited.... the average American eats 21 pounds per year.

Hopefully none! :p I hate 'em. I will pick thru my food to pick out the smallest bit of one and I leave them out of all my recipes.
