How many points?

I think we are going to dive in this weekend before the promotion ends, but how many points do you suggest for a family of 4 ( kids are 2 and 4). We vacation 1 time big a year and some small weekend jaunts

Go to the top of this page to "DVC Point Charts" and start taking a look at the point charts for where you are thinking of buying and see how many you usually need for times you go.

Note that weekends (Fri and Sat night) need more points than weekdays (Sun through Thurs night). You will see many who live by those Sun arrival to Friday departure trips. There are also those like us who like long trips but then we arrive on Sunday, stay 12 nights, and leave on a Fri so that we have only two weekend nights at the higher point cost.

Well you could always just go in with the 160 and then if you see that you would need more then you could always do add ons.
Would you want to stay in a studio or a one bedroom and how many nights would you be staying that would help determine.

I too would suggest visiting the point charts and making your decision based on that. Remember to break the contracts up as small as you can. For example, buy the basic 160 point contract, and then do any additional points in 25-50 point incremental contracts. That way, if you ever think you have too many, you can sell a few points easily without breaking up the whole contract.

We have 4 in our family as well, and although we are still new to DVC (just came back from our first visit home) we feel that we could easily get by with our 150 points, but I must admit there are plans in the works for a possible add on in the near future

I agree with the above.

Buy the minimum, see how that works for you. You will get a bunch of extra points with your purchase. That will help you get a feel of your usage. Once you are in the system, adding points are real easy.....almost too easy!

We were going to buy the minimum but decided to buy more. 210 in all. We divided it into 2 contracts. One is 150 (that was the min.) and the other 60. We figured that way if things changed the line we could sell the smaller contract instead of giving it all up.
