How many points can one particular person or couple own at one hotel?

I mean if you break it down, you can spend a good couple of months at OKW if you are planning on retiring.

Is there a set amount of points one person can own?

I think the max is 4000 per resort. 8000 max per person.

Is there ways to circumvent that? Probably

Here’s an older thread:

I sorta suspect that no one at DVD is checking much, especially if you aren't renting. But I thought the max was 2k at one resort. Did that change? Or is my memory off?

I'm not even at 1K yet, so maybe someone here who has more points knows for sure.

95% sure it's 4k at one resort, 8k maximum in total.

And it's not necessarily a hard limit; the Home Resort Rules contemplate the possibility of more, emphases added:

To encourage purchase for personal use, Owners, whether in the name of the Owner or those related to or associated with such Owner (e.g., a corporation controlled by such Owner or relative), and other than DVD or any parent, subsidiary or affiliate of DVD, may not aggregate Ownership Interests so as to compile more than 4,000 Home Resort Vacation Points per DVC Resort or an aggregate of 8,000 Home Resort Vacation Points at all DVC Resorts, unless it is approved by DVD in its sole, absolute, and unfettered discretion.

Er, @JackosinDIS beat me to it.

Are you planning to exceed 8k points soon? 😉

If I win the lottery there will be signs 🤣

So you imagined a world in which Disney would say No to money?
Hahah I don't think they would say no to money but I do think they would try to avoid any situation where a timeshare owner could actually be classified as a resident or potentially have a say in things as far as how a resort is run. I'm not entirely sure of the details as to why they don't buy I was pretty sure it had something to do with residency?

I believe there's a one month limit on how long you can stay continuously at one resort, in place to prevent you from claiming to be a resident, as well as the limitation on the number of points.

Interesting question. I don't know the answer. But is it a 30 limit per reservation, with no ability to immediately rebook another 30 days at the same resort. Or can you book 30 days and then, with a separate reservation, also book the next 30 days? Anyone know?

Pretty sure that they will not allow the same person/persons to stay at the hotel more than 30 days, regardless of number of reservations.

And, they do monitor it. We were talking with a couple last year in line at one of the rides who do 6 weeks every winter and they move resorts for one of the weeks in order to break it up.

DVC also does pay attention to the number of points someone owns and they have updated language in the RIV and beyond POS to make it clearer that being attached to any membership, even LLC's, etc. count toward your max.

I was going to say same… I wonder how many points I would actually buy if I won the powerball or something crazy, would I even care?
I mean, I could definitely see getting an unreal amount, but at the same time you could just stay in the penthouse or wherever. lol

*edit*
This could make for an interesting new thread, like what would you buy if you had a $250k DVC Gift card?

I'll buy 1000 Poly points direct, just enough to get me a TPV studio for a week a year with the point charts it has 🤣

You’d probably buy a place at Disney Golden Oak.

Forget points.

If I won the lotto that's exactly what I'd do lol. If it was limited to a 250k DVC gift card though it'd be tempting to buy some direct points and then save the rest of the money for if/when BWV and BCV are brought back and then buy then. Points will probably be 400+ dollars a point then though and then of course inflation

Honestly I’ve thought about that and I guess if you win the powerball why wouldn’t you, but that’s only if the prize is crazy, like over $200m.

If I was to buy DVC, I’d probably get a weeks worth of points for a GV in the highest season (Xmas eve to NYD) from Poly, BLT, CCV, BWV, AKV, and OKW. (not sure how many points that is. lol)

I could be wrong, but seem to remember it’s 4,000 points per resort, 8,000 max per two owners (couple). Basically they are allowing up to 4,000 points per person per resort maximum. Hey I’m getting older and sometime the memory doesn’t remember things the correct way. We have some 4,000+ point owners on the boards.
