I have a Kodak 10x zoom, 6 megapixel. On average how many picures would a 1 GB memory card hold (high resolution)? New to the digital camera and traveling !

I don't know how much use this will be, but we just got back from a 3 week vacation with 1GB of memory cards and at 4 megapixel we took about 1000 photos with some (not much) space left on the cards. Some cards fit more and sometimes quite a lot more photos then other cards of the exact same size, so obviously each photo is a different size depending on the factors.

It might be somewhere between 300 and 400. I was able to fit about 350 pictures (I stopped before it filled up) on a 1gb card using a 7 megapixel camera.

I have a 5 megapixel 10X zoom (12X digital zoom was turned off) and took around 700-800 pictures on my 1GB card. Not sure on the resolution as I'm new to the whole thing, too. But I was pleased with most of the pictures. Ones that didn't turn out so hot were because I'm not used to the camera yet. Some where blurry, some where too bright because of the flash.

Depends on the pixels, resolution, type of card, etc. I have a 6.1 SLR....I use 1GB SD UltraII cards...I use the highest resolution and get less than 300 pics. All of my pics are very high quality.

The lower the res, the more pics you get. Also, it depends on the card. My camera that I used a CF card in would take over 500 pics on a single 1GB card on the higest res. It was a 4MP camera.

I might suggest you visit the website for whatever brand card you have and look at the Matrix.

for my 6 MP camera, 512 Mb at the highest JPEG will fit about 150 pics at ISO100 but only 120 pics at ISO1600.

However, printing no larger than 5x7, it's still acceptable to save the pic at second-highest resolution and you'll get double the number of photos stored. Of course, if you're taking pictures with LOTS of details, even at 5x7 you'll see the compression difference.

This might help give you an idea (works for most cameras). Put your card in the camera, set it to the resolution you wish to use and look through your menus. Most cameras will tell you how many pictures you can take with the remaining space. Unless you plan on enlarging your pictures you don't need to use the highest resolution, that being said you can always decrease a photo's resolution after it has been taken but you can't increase it.

Have fun, take lots of pictures!
