How many people over 65 buy a DVC membership

I was 54 when we bought in 6 years ago and I've added on several times since then. Personally, unless I hit the lotto, I'm done buying points. I need to finalize my finances before retirement. Or semi retirement. I plan to continue working until I give up the ghost.

But I can see scenarios where people in their 60's could purchase DVC. I don't think there should be a hard rule against it.

This is a great question.

We bought in on my 50th birthday (and my DH was 55). That was 6 years ago. I wanted it paid for when I retired at 55 (which it was). I've added on several times since -- up to 710 points now! We didn't buy earlier because my DH was a CM and we were too busy booking our rooms with the CM 50% and 60% off, though we were approached many times about buying DVC. Not until his division was to close did we decide to buy into DVC (w/a CM discount). Of course, we have joined the "we should've done it long ago" club. Now as I think about adding on and review the resale listings daily, I do struggle with "how long will I get to use these new points". My contract(s) are set to go straight to my daughter (and her family) to use when we are gone (I made her an owner when I bought in). Now that I'm retired at 55 (thanks USG), I have more time to plan those trips, but find we still go our 4-5 trips a year!! We have no plans to slow down now. I just hope I can use my points as long as some of my fellow posters here. I guess if I ever find that right resale contract -- the one with the April UY -- I'll buy it then. So far, it hasn't happened yet.

We bought in our early 50's after our kids were grown, and we are currently in our mid 60's and travel to WDW 1-3 times a year...Mostly by ourselves.

We bought in at 53 (DH was 57), added AKV two years later, and I'm saving for a small BWV contract now! I'm 60! We enjoy our studio trips with just the two of us, but are also looking forward to the bigger family trips. Look at my signature -- can you ever become too excited about your first grandchild?

DH was 60 and I was 58 when we bought 4 years ago and we have enjoyed every point and every trip so far. We go about twice a year by ourselves at low attendance times and really love it. We have also been to HHI once and plan to go again. We used points for 1 of us and paid cash for the other and went on the ABD trip to the Grand Canyon (Southwest Splendors) last fall and had a ball. There were lots of other DVC people on the trip with us. We just got back from a Grand Villa trip with our children and grandchildren. Going back by ourselves to Food and Wine in October and then hoping to go to Aulani. Life is Good!!! Especially with DVC.:cool1:
