How many people have used a pedometer at Disney?

I have read that 6,000 steps a day is healthy and 10,000 steps a day is great! I wonder how many steps we take a day at Disney World on vacation?

That's why I like Disney - I have time to walk and swim and bike....which lets me eat anything I want for the day!
At work I'm stuck at a desk. :badpc:

Our last trip I had a pedometer - we averaged 5-6 miles most days but on one of them it was around 9. This was in addition to a daily bike ride at FW or an evening swim - so you really can get your exercise in at WDW - but it all seems so FUN there! (Not like at the gym :Pinkbounc )

I'm interested as well to see what other folks average daily walking around.

I did one year and we hit 10 miles nearly every day. My friend and I are definetly Disney Commandos. I'll be bringing mine along again (if I remember) this october.

I wore one during our two week WDW vacation last August
and I bought a new one for our two week WDW vacation starting this Saturday :cheer2:
It helps with some of the guilt from overeating/overdrinking

I've wondered about this before. Charlotte&Carolina and Minnesota, how many parks did you visit those days? Also, did you stay onsite when you recorded your miles? Just curious.

Actually you want to aim for about 10,000 steps a day in an average day. 12,000 is better if you're trying to lose weight.

I honestly cannot remember how many steps I averaged last year (I brought my pedometer last year), but I know I was averaging 13 miles a day.

I averaged about 10 miles per day on my trip last year. I haven't gotten my pedometer yet (still looking for one...nobody seems to carry them!) but plan on wearing it next year.

Do you have a Target near you? They sell several types of pedometers.

Check ebay...I typed in "pedometer" in the search and over 900 popped up.

Try Weight Watchers. They have great pedometers. However, every pedometer can easily fall off. So, add a string and clip it to your pants as well, so, if the pedometer falls, it doesn't break. Also, keep your pedometer on your side not in front of you. The side keeps better track.

The average person walks 3-4 miles a day, but an active person walks between 5-6 miles a day (10,000 to 12,000 steps or more).

Where are you staying? BWV is a great place to start a morning walk or jog around the boardwalk.

I always wear my pedometer. We usually walk between 10-15 miles (20,000-30,000 steps). My favorite pedometer is the Accusplit Eagle 170. You can order it online at www.accusplit.com.

I took a pedometer this year to WDW and one day while we were waiting for Fantasmic popcorn:: , I went to the bathroom. It was already at 26,000+ steps and when I was buttoning my pants it fell off and hit the floor. The back shot off in one direction and the 2 batteries in the other, zooming past the people in the adjoining stalls. I was so embarrassed! When I got out the pieces were nowhere to be found and I wasn't going to go peeking under each stall. :rotfl:

Yeah we averaged 8-10 miles....a day

This is for DLR.

I work out regularly, but knew there were be no exercise facilities at my hotel and was curious as to how many steps I would take. So I wore a pedometer and kept a record. I went with DH, just the two of us. We stayed offsite at the HoJo Anaheim, which is a 7-10 minute walk from DLR. We also visited during the heat wave, which affected our touring decisions.

Here's the information.

Day One: 30,000 steps.
The busiest day at DL, which is smaller than MK. We arrived for EE days, and did a lot of crossing back-and-forth the park, gathering fastpasses and returning to favorite rides. We stayed in the parks until 11.00, then walked to DTD for lunch (which is crossing the parking lot). We returned to DL until 1.30. Then we left the park to shower and rest at the hotel, before returning at 5.30 p.m. and stayed until 10.00.

Day Two: 19,000 steps.
The first day at DCA, which I believe is smaller than DL. We arrived at 9.30, did some crossing back and forth between. We ate lunch in DCA at 11.30, and left the parks for our at 1.00. We returned to DCA at 6.00 to do other attractions, then walked across the parking lot to DL for a couple of rides, the fireworks, and the late seating for the Fantasmic! buffet. We weren't really active the second half of the day.

Day Three: 15,000 steps.
Our least active Disney day. We slept in, had a late character breakfast, then returned to our hotel (it was during the heat wave). We entered DL for a 2.30 tour, the Walk in Walt's Footsteps. It was promoted as a 3 1/3 hour walking tour; it was a walking tour, but because of the heat wave our guide tried to minimize the pace. We went on a few rides after the tour ended, but left the parks by 9.30 or so.

Non-Disney Day: 11,000 steps
We did have a non-Disney day, where we drove to L.A., visited The Getty Center, then drove to the El Capitan to see POTC: DMC. Very sluggish day, and we felt it.

Day Four: 24,000 steps.
The catch-our-favorites day. We hit DL early, going on our favorite rides and catching up on any attractions we'd missed. We then left the park at 1.30 for lunch near the hotel and an afternoon of rest. We returned to the park at 7.00 p.m. and stayed until 9.30 p.m. We then hopped over to DTD for some shopping and returned to the hotel.

Just a note for those who DO work out regularly: although I certainly walked a lot, more than I do at home, I found myself getting "antsy" to return to the gym as our vacation progressed. An exercise room wasn't a hotel amenities priority when making reservations, a decision both DH and I regretted. Disney walking, especially the walking, shufflilng, & standing in line, is tiring in a way that working out isn't. Both DH and I felt that we would have been much more energetic if we'd included full work-outs. (We ran the first day we were there, but weren't acclimated for running outdoors during the heat wave and so cut it short on other days, and did in-room stretching exercises, but I'm talking a more concentrated work-out.)

I got my 10,000 from the book Fat Smash. 12,000 would be two workouts a day for me. I work in an office and SIT most of the day. I've been walking in the mornings and at lunch and I almost get 12,000 a day. I'm leaving Aug. 30th for Disney and was wondering if I needed to do a little walking in the early am before everyone gets up to ge my steps in for the day.
