How many of you purchased extra points to treat extended family.

It's fun to hear all of the experiences similar to ours. We started with 220 points for the 2 of us. We began by getting 2 studios so we could bring my parents. Then we moved up to 2 - 1 bedrooms so we could take friends. Now, after increasing points to 620, we have moved up to 3 - 2 bedrooms for siblings and nieces and spouses. It is fun to have a trip as just the 2 of us, but we also enjoy watching people we love having a great time. The older I get, the more I mean it when I say that there is no greater blessing than being able to give happiness to others.

It sounds like so many of you bought with the intention of taking others. jekjones1558 said it best - "There is no greater blessing than being able to give happiness to others."

The one thing I didn't mention when I started this post was that both my father and I are cancer survivors. I just celebrated my 20th year of being cancer free and he just celebrated his 11th. So this was really a celebration for us.

I remember when I was diagnosed as a teenager. The doctor walked in and told me point blank that if I didn't go through the 3 years of chemo and radiation, I'd be dead by Thanksgiving. Not much for bedside manner but let me tell you, it was a true wake up call. It's kind of wierd but getting cancer was one of the best things that happened to me in my life. It made me put things in perspective really quick. I learned to appreciate people more and trust them more. I also was fortunate to learn what the true meaning was of having a family bond around you. I am so thankful that I am able to give back to those who helped me through that time. I am truly blessed and get great joy out of making others happy. DVC let's me do just that.

Thank you all for the great posts and for sharing.

I bought a small resale after a surprise bonus from work about a month ago- I didn't even tell my husband at first and then my brother & sister teased me about. Shortly after that my mother under went two surgeries and now that same brother and sister are asking me to plan a family reunion next winter as a goal for my mom's recovery!! We haven't even closed and we're hoping to rent/borrow and beg!princess:

We just purchased 160 pts. @SSR in Feb. with a July use year. Well, Mom and Dad's 45th anniversary this Sept. prompted us to invite them along on our first DVC stay in August @OKW. So our first stay will be in a 2BR/6 nights which required us to borrow 27 points from next year. Our initial thought at purchase was that we would mostly stay in a studio or 1BR, occasionally inviting family or friends. Haven't made ressies for next year yet, but most likely will try for 5-6 nights at either SSR or HHI in late August. We don't have any guests planned as of yet other than a possible buddy for DS which would only require a 1BR. However, I am feeling tempted to invite someone again...we shall see how DH's new job situation goes. If things go well with that and if we have way too much fun on our first DVC trip this year, we may just have to add on another 40-90 points!

We bought enough points to always bring my MIL. She is a single mom that works three jobs and has raised four kids. We also plan to bank and borrow to take the rest of our families every three years.

Hi Everyone,

My introduction to DVC took place five years ago when a friend invited me to "her place" at OKW for a long winter weekend. The next year she invited me again and we stayed at BWV overlooking the Boardwalk. That was it! I bought 170 HHI points, site unseen.

Since then, I've never been to DVC without family/friends. I invited Mom and Sis to Vero first time out. We all loved it. The following spring , my 86 yr. old Mom, Sis, her SO, my SO and I had a 2 bedroom at HHI. Heaven. Next time we went to OKW, and I invited a favorite uncle and his new wife. They enjoyed themselves so much, they bought points as well. Last year we had a crowd at BWV to celebrate Unk's 80th. (Sometimes your guests buy points of their own and sharing goes both ways.)

More than half the fun of DVC is inviting people to come along. Of course, I did a couple of small add-ons, both at HHI, so now I have 225 pts. That doesn't sound like much compared to what some people have, but come Thanksgiving we're having a small reunion at HHI with 2 two bedrooms and 3 studios. And, I have just enough points left over for Mom, Sis, and I to go to Vero again in September.

I love my Disney! And I still have an endless list of people I'd like to invite.

Jane
