How many of you have lost luggage going to WDW?

Just wondering what has happen with everyone? Just seems like a pain in the butt to replace things if a piece of luggage gets lost. Wondering about shipping a box myself...just not sure yet.

Since 1994 we have traveled into MCO 95 times (I had to do a count, had no idea it was that high) we have never lost a piece of luggage.

We had one piece lost last month, flew JFK to MCO, but it was lost in JFK not MCO. They found it and brought it to our hotel that evening. DELTA. About a dozen bags were misplaced on that flight.

Fortunately, it was our Aerobed, not a more valuable piece.

average 50,000-75,000 miles/year - in over 10 years one bag was delayed 5 days (that was when I moved to N America), and maybe twice a bag didn't make a flight and arrived a few hours later.

Truly lost luggage is rare; delays are more common but still rare as a percentage of total luggage.

Just be aware that UPS and Fed EX can delay your package. I have had packages lost, left in warehouses, etc. so allow some extra time if you are going to use them. I find the airlines are much better than UPS and Fed EX.

11 trips to WDW since '99 and all my luggage has arrived with me. Only one time have I had luggage arrive 'after' me and that was a flight from Boston to Seattle with a connection in Chicago (if I remember correctly). My bag arrived the next day...they brought it out to me.

We flew from Chicago to MCO the day after the new carry on rules. We had 7 pieces of checked luggage and one didn't make it. They told us it was still in Chicago because a conveyor belt broke and some didn't make it on the plane. About 20 people were putting in claims from our flight.

We had the last flight out that day so it was sent on the first one in the morning. It arrived in our room at POP around 4:30 pm. So it wasn't even 24 hours.

One time (out of approx. 20 trips) we had a flight change because we missed our connecting flight. Our luggage didn't get on our new flight - it came a few hours later and was brought right to our resort.

Thought I'd lost my luggage twice, but both times when I went to the lost luggage office, my luggage was sitting outside it (unattended, but it was there). Turns out that although we didn't make our connecting flights, our luggage did. So I'm a case of the luggage making it before the people. The first time I was relieved. The second time all I could do was laugh.

This trip we're taking a non-stop. Hoping that we and our luggage all arrive at the same time.

I am trying to figure out what to do with a piece of equipment we have to bring down to WDW next month - it's a samurai sword. DD is competing in Disney's Martial Arts Festival.

Obviously we are not going to be able to carry it on the plane (even though it's not sharp), but it's valuable and I have heard that these type of things can disappear from checked baggage. Even if I put it in it's own hard case and check it separately, I worry that it will be tempting to the TSA rent-a-cops.

What's the airline limit of liability on checked bags? If I ship it to myself UPS ground, I can insure it for the proper amount. Thoughts??

SW lost our luggage twice going to MCO. I never got one piece back. The other was delivered to the resort 3 days later. Never flying SW again!

I was going to add exactly that after I posted!!! I have a love/hate relationship with DHL - several boxes of work items have never ever shown up over the years.

USPS however has never lost a personal box of mine...

Liability may vary by airline - check your airline's website. You're probably better off shipping it.

ship it. that's what i did when i had a valuble dagger that i didn't want to put in my checked bag. it'll be insured and they'll hold it for you at check-in.

I had luggage arrive a few hours after we did, but it was our fault really. We were flying Independence Air (Oh, how I miss them) and I got the time of our flight wrong. We arrived 10 minutes before the plane was set to leave.

I personally never lost luggage flying to MCO. However, my cousin did have one bag delayed, it was delivered later that night to our resort (and yes it was a non stop flight on USair in 1991) In any case, all was well the bag just didn't make the flight

I too am nervous about losing luggage though, so I feel your anxiety )

I've been flying for 28 yrs, and luggage has gotten lost only 1 time. But, when the family goes on vacation together, I split everybodys stuff between the suitcases so we all have at least 1 change of clothes just in case.
